Am I the only one who was really disappointed with IndyCar's graphics for wet races? All I see is a dark sky. Not very thrilling. I remember the first time I encountered a wet race in World Circuit. "hmmm.. they've dulled the colour palette down to simulate the low light conditions. I'm impressed", I thought as I sat on the grid. Then the light went green and Alesi's car threw a huge rooster tail up in my face. Wow. I almost reached for my glasses to wipe the spray off. C'mon Papyrus. You dropped the ball on this one (not to mention the invisible pace car). Stephen Ferguson "There's a madness to my method"

Ya, but they picked the ball back up, & kicked everyone elses *** with the h2h modem connection. I was completely wrong about my worries of the framerate being poor for ICR h2h. Can U say "real time racing"? Simply awesome. 100% better than F1GP. Period... >Stephen Ferguson >"There's a madness to my method"

Why is everyone complaining about the modem play on F1GP? I've hooked two 486's together with a null modem cable and was able to get 25fps on each. I haven't tried a modem connection. Was there a problem with this? We had a great time playing over the null modem cable and had no complaints. Stephen Ferguson

Because... F1GP's modem play is VERY CPU intensive. I had a 386/16 with a 14400 modem. My friend had a 486/33 with a 14400 modem. I was getting very acceptable framerates with my 386/16. Once we connected the framerate was a slide show. The connection was 9600. In all probability, if I tried F1GP modem play with my 486DX2 66mhz, I would not have this problem, if my friend has similar equiptment. As for ICR modem play??? Totaly flawless. Same framerate as the normal game. THe number of opponants did not effect framerate either. When I tried F1GP there were only 2 cars. The framerate was just horrible. My theory had been, that 2 fast CPU's were required at 9600 baud. >Stephen Ferguson

One thing to note though, is that the ICR normal game is unplayable on anything like a 386-16....so the question really should be, how does ICR play h2h with a 386-25 and a 486-66..? Does it not slow the 486 player down at all? You are correct for ICR. The origional poster was talking about F1GP which will do 25fps. (check your included text.)

: That's pretty impressive seeing as the game was only designed to run at : 15 FPS. :) Then why does it let you set the fps rate to 25 fps?? Its definitely smooth, and if you have the CPU horsepower, it will run that smooth at 100% CPU efficiency. [....] Funny, we had this problem at first attempt, but after really tweaking the modem init strings, it ran smooth as silk. It's been a while since playing F1GP (I admit to being into ICR now, as well :) so I don't remember the particulars about the settings, but when we stumbled on the right one she clicked in beautifully. Sorry, but I just didn't notice these problems being discussed here, thought other people may want to hear the encouragement as well. I do remember it was a bit 'picky' about the strings... but what game isn't that supports modem's? :) Agreed, ICR works just fine over the modem (with less tweaking and modem manual leafing :). "Plug-and-play"! :) I must also say the two machines were: <mine> 386-dx40 4 Meg <other> 486-dx33 8 Meg .... for what it's worth, but the 386 should have held things up if it was going to, I think. ICR Question....... One question though, just what is the justification of not being able to run a championship season under modem play? Why single tracks? Or have I missed something, which is entirely possible, outside of doc look-ups and a early read at first, the manual is not my best "friend" when it comes to games :) Don't recall reading anything about this non-ability anywhere though. Of course at the time, the modem option didn't work so I didn't spend a lot of time reading about it..... Sure... There is no "save game" feature for ICR. A h2h season would in all likely-hood not be done in 1 sitting. So... I think a "save game" option would be required. Since they have *NO* plans for implimenting a "save game" feature, I think we should be happy with the single tracks. By far, ICR is the best h2h "real time" game I've played.

Don't forget that in Indycar racing, they DON'T race in rain if it's significant, at least not compared to what they'll race in in F1. How often have you seen in Indy car throw roostertails? If you have, I'll bet the yellow or red was out, or came out really soon afterwards. -- GNU Emacs is a LISP operating system disguised as a word processor. - Doug Mohney, in comp.arch Randell Jesup, OS Group Head, Commodore Engineering. >>ICR Question....... >> One question though, just what is the justification of not being >>able to run a championship season under modem play? Why single tracks? [......] --- yes, but correct me if I'm wrong an ENTIRE season doesn't have to be finished in one sitting, that is "saved" after each race weekend is finished. Just the RACE would have to be finished in that sitting, you could pick it up again the next day from loading it via the "Season Menu-Continue Season" could you not? --- Minor complaint, though, there must be some reason why it can't be done. Besides that, agreed! Best h2h real time game I've played! (Kicks Doom and is even marginally better than F1GP, which was also pretty 'snappy' :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ | "And I command you to | | _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ | kneel before the God of | | _/ _/ _/ _/_/_/ _/_/_/ 20th Aniversary | Thunder and Rock n' Roll"| | _/_/ _/ _/ _/ (1973-1993) | KISS --> Destroyer | | _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ | Chris Goucher | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Christopher Goucher This be the end My opinions are MY opinions (so be gentle! :) )
