THis is good... WHile I feel the AI was better than any other racing sim, I found the AI for Nazareth really bad! And on other tracks, I have gotten rear ended many times from Lil AL and Mario, with version 1.02. I hope though that this means that they will crash & cause more yellows than I do! Good. If true, then I take back all of my vile comments on how this would be impossible! I will try it soon.

(stuff deleted) I tried it last night with no real problems. My only gripe is that you get the joystick calibration for both joysticks whenever you start the game - at least it did with me. Sort of irritating but works well nevertheless. Cannot attest to the improved AI yet. bob barker

I'm one of the Papyrus beta testers, and all I can say is that modem play in 1.04 is GREAT! Papyrus did not want to release this until it was reliable. The AI is also tweaked a little bit, however the computer cars do not take full advantage of yellow flags yet. What is amazing is the frame rate in the modem version when playing two players, it is not slow like world circuit - the frame rate is like the game when playing single player. Truly amazing. Give it a try! >>>Subject: ICR Modem patch is out!!! >>>Date: 6 Apr 1994 10:45:32 GMT >>>Anyone who HAVE tried it and got it working, please post your >>>comments/experiences/troubles here! I've only just begun using v1.04, so I can't possibly talk about much... One rather noticeable difference between v1.02 and v1.04 is the joystick calibration routine. In v1.02 the values for the joystick calibration on my machine ranged from 14-766, left-to-right units. In v1.04 it appears that those units are halved, giving a left-to-right range of 7-3xx. The result is that the car is MUCH less twitchy, since each movement of the stick is worth half of what it used to be worth, in 'joystick units.' This makes it much easier to fine-tune the car's attitude when approaching turn-in points and under heavy braking, and also makes driving in traffic much more realistic.

Well I tried the new patch. I couldn't get the program to connect with the recommended init string for a zoom modem. So being an expert at connecting with Doom through Telix, we just switched over to that and it ran fine. I had a blast, my opponent had damage turned off, so he got away with a lot more than I did. We used the exact same setup, and raced on New Hampshire. We just practiced for awhile, and tried passing each other. It seemed really smooth, almost all the graphics were on. I think the only thing that was off was road texture. I'm glad Papyrus added this patch, they just made a good game "great". Later, Beau

If anyone wants to try this over IHHD to see if it will work over an internet connection, send mail. Or if anyone has already tried it, please send reports!
