As the other posts noted, GPL doesn't support positional or "3d" sound. But I
swear at times I can hear them coming up from behind. The sound can be moved to
any speaker you want ( again not "3d") by using the speaker tab of the sb
software, simply drag the little icons to the front or rear. As for the sound,
use the enviroment audio tab section of the sb software and start with the
basic multi speaker setup then add a couple percent of reverb and some flanger
as well. Do some experimenting then save and name different setups for every
different game/sim.
Good luck,John Moore
Hi
I am running GPL with SBlive but could not
quite get the rear speakers to give enough
sounds of cars coming from behind.
I note more of these overtaking cars sound
come thru the front speakers than the rear.
It ought to be more from the rear.
It the game I had enable max channels 16
speaker wave was position as close as possible.
Virtually tried all combinations but still overtaking cars
sounds come more from the front than the rear.
Lead me to think the GPL need to recognise the rear
speaker or something like that.
Can anyone help me ?

Sorry to disappoint you, but GPL doesn't have any positional sound at all, so
it doesn't use the 3D sound features of the SB Live. The only way you can get
sound from the rear speakers is to make a environment in the SoundHQ for GPL.
Then you will get some reverb effects, but personally i found such features
useless in GPL because it started to sound like a closed sportscar.
The only good thing about the GPL and SB Live combination is that you can have
16 channels of sound with minor CPU load and framerate hit.

GPL is set up for a two speaker stereo system, not a four speaker or
five speaker surround sound system. So you wont get the car that's
passing you on the left to sound like it's on your left rear, then come
around to the left front. What it will do is give you the sound coming
from both front and back speakers on the left no matter where the car
is. I used to run a four speaker system but since GPL isn't written for
it, I have sense detached the fronts.
The way it sounds for your system is that you have the rear speakers
plugged into the front speaker port. Try switching them around to get
the rear speakers to work right and place the rear speakers on the left
and right of you.
If I'm wrong and there is a way to set GPL up for a four speaker system
or even better yet a surround sound system, I'd like to hear about it!!

I can't find it. I'm
using Liveware 3.0.

Hi guys
thanks very much for your susgestions
I returned with excitement after several hours
( I need to get a new life ) of tunning the sblive.
DISABLE THE DAMN CMSS = movie mode
it spoils everything, !!
It is in the speaker options.
After I did that, yes I could hear the cars passing
behind me.
Especially so when I skidded and facing a field ,
I don't have to look at the mirrors to HEAR them passing behind .
Actually put my hears at the rear to confirm this !
It is not an illusion, is what I meant to say.
Also use the field reverbs, not the racetrack.
Reverbs are softer in the field mode.
Used it for SBK as well.
Yes, absolutely no framehits with 16 channels
also download the loader skid sounds, it will
help you know when you are reaching the edge
of grip.
I don't believe it at first, but adding SBLIVE did
actually help my lap times !!!!
Now it feel is much more INTUITIVE.
I think this word accurately describe the situation.
( pun intended )

If all of this is true, that would be fantastic, but how can it be?
GPL doesn't support 3D sound, how is it possible that you can hear the
cars coming from the rear? Any other SBLive owners out there to test
this?

oops
Liveware 3.0 perfromance is different
for the CMSS.
Some post that it does work better
but if you dont have LW3
then disabling CMSS should be better.

try it and park the car facing a field with no reflections
sound from any wall.
Let the track be at your rear.
You want only the cars coming from the rear right to the rear left.
then wait for the other racing to pass.
bring the rear speakers slightly closer
you will only hear them from the rear !
no sound from the front at all.
