hi Dan,
1. make sure you have TCP/IP installed.
2. check that the network card has an ip address assigned to it, can u ping it
? if the card is working it should reply.
3. finally if your ip address is given by DHCP gpl does not find detect the ip
address thus u dont get the option to use it. add this entry in your core.ini
file (even if your ip is not DHCP assigned add it, might solve your prob)
[Communications]
;other gpl core.ini stuff
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1
i had the same prob u had and step 3 cured it, hope that helps.

I'm not certain, but I think that the Novell client uses ipx/spx by default.
In our experience, tcpip needs an ip address at each end for the connection
to work. It doesn't sound like you have tcpip installed anymore. Check in
network neighbourhood and make sure the protocol is still installed, and
that it is bound to your network card.

TIA

Welp. No luck yet... I do have TCP/IP installed and bound to my net
card, I do have the core.ini alternate address entry, I am able to ping my
IP which I got with winipcfg. I'm at a loss....I have tried to "hard code"
my IP address instead of having it auto-assigned but then my internet
connection won't work at all. Any other suggestions are more than welcome.
This may be asking too much but, if anyone has a cable modem and would like
to install Novell Client to see if your TCP/IP option in GPL disappears,
this may help me find a solution.
Thanks a lot. (again)
<Dan>
BTW...GPL is the ONLY app that I can't connect TCP/IP multi-play with. It
simply doesn't give me the option anymore. (Only IPX subnet, Modem, Serial
port Com1, Serial port Com2)

in the previous months I removed and re-added the core.ini IP lookup entry.
I added it as "alternate_ip_address_lookup = 1" where it should've been
"..._addr_..." I must've overlooked that 20 times in the past few days.
Doh!
Thanks for all the helpful replies. Now if I could just find the
"Any" key.....
