Public Service Announcement. :) Some interesting links to articles over on Jayski's. http://www.jaski.com MARIO AND AJ TIE:Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt tied for the title of best driver of the century as voted by a six-member panel of experts assembled by The Associated Press. http://speednet.starnews.com/cart/99/dec/1211ap_topdrivers.html THE DODGE BUZZ:The Buzz out of Detroit is that Joe Gibbs is currently in negotiations with Dodge for the second factory team spot. Gibbs racing, with two of the hottest drivers in the Winston Cup (Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart), and a first rate organization, would be an excellent choice. The official word from Detroit is that Dodge will have two factory backed teams (with a total of five cars) in 2001. They will also support a yet to be determined number of independent teams. While Petty Enterprises is still the front runner for the second factory deal, it's possible that Dodge might take three teams directly under their wing. We may see both Petty and Gibbs. Dodge will release more information on their plans for 2001 at a breakfast news conference scheduled for Tuesday, January 11th at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. CART AND NASCAR?:France Reportedly Discussing CART Takeover - We have it on good authority that CART and NASCAR's Bill France are at least feeling each other out, with an eye toward France acquiring the series. Whether there are serious, if preliminary conversations going on, or there's merely been a first overture depends on who one gets the story from, but regardless of the source -- and there are several -- all versions have CART people making the overture to France, rather than the other way around. We are led to believe that many within CART are beginning to seriously question the viability of the series even in the short-term. This evidently became apparent at a Dec. 2nd team owners meeting, which we are told was poorly attended. We are told that several hard questions, some involving the series' inept television coverage, were put to CART honcho Andrew Craig, who is said to have been evasive in many of his answers, to widespread dissatisfaction. Some people within CART have told RaceFax they believe France represents the only salvation for the open-wheel series, but how widespread that belief may be is not certain. MUFFLERS AT NHIS?:To stop the noise of speeding cars at New Hampshire International Speedway and address traffic, Canterbury residents have come up with three possible solutions: equipping cars with mufflers, enclosing the track with a dome or scaling back the number of events. Within 10 years, residents do not want to hear a sound from the speedway. They're willing to get to that point gradually. Initially, they want 106 days of quiet during the 214-day season; by 2005, 160 days; then, the full 214. Oral arguments in the case were delivered yesterday at Merrimack County Superior Court before Judge Kathleen McGuire. Canterbury residents filed the lawsuit in December 1997, arguing the Loudon Planning Board had not adequately addressed noise and traffic problems caused by the track when it approved the 9,000-seat expansion. A decision on the case could take up to 60 days. http://207.180.37.15/stories/front0699/jgv_track_1.shtml And not sure if you heard this one yet or not, but..... New #24 Crew Chief UPDATE: wow, here is a shocker....Hendrick Motorsports announced that #43 crew chief Robbie Loomis has been named crew chief for the #24 DuPont team and driver Jeff Gordon. Brian Whitesell, who took over the crew chief duties when Ray Evernham left at midseason, has been promoted to the position of team manager http://www.nascar.com/news/1999news/December/7/00992162.html End of PSA :) -- Scott aka Outshynd The driver formerly know as Outshined "33" in N3 27 in NL "And it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, is just a freight train heading your way."--No Leaf Clover....Metallica
