Yes...read the manual first. Then, you would understand fully what you are seeing with your own eyes already. The line, moves with the tachometer, but stays put at the highest point you rev the engine. The point of it was to help you gauge where to shift since the engine had no official red line like a production car. It also helped you get your ass kicked when you brought the car back to the garage with a broken engine and the team engineers could see that you caused the problem by over-revving the engine. GPL expects that you are smart enough to bump against the real engine rev limiter once or twice (the point where the engine will not rev any farther) and then keep it well below that for normal driving and racing (unless you enjoy blowing the engine and ending your race). What you're seeing is actually a tachometer tell tale that shows the highest rev that you have made your engine turn during a session. It can be reset using shift T if I recall correctly. IF you want proper redline there are several sites you can go to to get updated graphics patches. One of them is called Redlined tachos at the graphics page of the Fast Lane site here http://www.the-fastlane.com/graphs_cpits.shtml . Lots of other stuff there but make sure its GPL 1.2 compatible David Jon Andersen <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:T3R44.872$[email hidden]... > Yo! > > Why does the red line move (GPL 1.2)? > > I thaugt the point with this line was to let me know when to shift gear, > that revs above this line would damage the engine. Yo! Why does the red line move (GPL 1.2)? I thaugt the point with this line was to let me know when to shift gear, that revs above this line would damage the engine. Why doesn't the line stay put? Am I missing something? Jon

That's really true, of course. We had to deal with that on the Formula Fords we drove when I did the driving school at Laguna Seca. I also seem to recall a story of a driver in the early to mid 60s who would carry a small magnet in his driving suit. He used it to drag the telltale down to a lower number--until the team supposedly got wise and changed the needle to a non-magnetic substance. Nearly caused him to crash while he was fiddling with it on the way in to the pits! Telemetry sure has changed, eh?
