Hi i'm new here and i just blew up my LWFF so no more GPL or anything else until i have a new one ......:) this geves me the time to build and finish some of my models, and to dream about a future GPL... Hmmmmm the GP theme has been done...so?? Sportscar Legends!!!!! circa 1970, which gives us car which were faster than the contemporary F1 cars Nice!!!917's, 512S, LolaT70....vewwy nice all this ofcourse in lovely 32but graphics with lots of polygons (hey i have a Geforce...lol) Force feedback, and with an arcade mode so the game would sell a bit more copy's and keep it's developers interested aswell A3D would be nice, so all the sounds come from a certain direction..(is that my left front wheel locking?) Most of the circuits from GPL could be used,l with just a few more added....... this will probably never happen though....pity.... well back to corracting that Tamiya 49B then Sudesh

Not only that, but you're bringing aerodynamics (complicated aerodynamics at that as you'd have movable aerodynamic devices like the "flippers" on the early Porsche 917, and variable pitch wings on stuff like the contemporary Chaparral CanAm cars) thus requiring an awful lot of work on the physics engine. Actually the thought of a GPL style Porsche 917 weaving gently from side to side across the whole width of the road at 220 MPH on the Mulsanne is so scary that I just don't think I could cope with this :-) Now, a 50s "Sports Car Legends", with, say Jaguar C/D types, Aston Martin DBRs, Mercedes 300 SLRs, Ferrari 4.9s, etc, etc, etc, and Dundrod, LeMans, Aintree, Goodwood, etc added to the track list, would be seriously desirable, and, unless I'm missing something, not terribly difficult to do. You can add "Grand Prix Legends: The Early Years", with big hairy front-engined cars like Vanwalls, Mercedes W196, and pre-war stuff like Bugatti 35s, Auto-Unions, Alfa Alfettas etc, etc to the wish list too, but we're getting even more niche here... -- JG

I like your thinking. However, I'd like to see it taken one step further with the early cars and tracks.. Add these to GPL, or make it so that it's overly easy to convert over. As it stands there are online racing leagues using the F1's solely and there's leagues using the F2's solely, as well as leagues using the F3's solely. Be nice to have a sanctioning body (SRM, GPML, GMSS, ect.) be able to use the 5x F1's F2's and F3's making for a series with 6 different classes. Then to take it one step further, (really dreaming here) Build the sim to allow for the number of competitors to be determined by the strength of the server and the server connections instead of a maximum number (20). Just think.. 5 years from today as the pentium becomes old as we now use the hex-ium(?) 20gig CPU's and ADLS and Cable ect.. become as relatively slow as the 2400 modems compared to the new 500gig/sec modems. Then the servers could potentially have 150 cars on the track. 20-1967 F3's, 30-1967 F1's, 15-1950 F1's...ect.. Basically, a full track with mixed class fields. Not saying that we would do a 150 car race but having the potential would help the online leagues quite a bit. -- ========================================= Mike Barlow of Barlow Racing? ========================================= http://members.xoom.com/BarlowRacing/ Racing online with the help of...... You think like me Michael :-) Think BIG! I was just talking to a co-worker about merging the Flight Gear open-source program with my Car Sim Project. We could have people flying helicopters to video tape a Baja 1000. People could fly drivers to their next events. Even Semi-trucks could be modelled like Hard Driving (but allow for detached trailers) so your cars can be transported to the next race event. Merge in with that some Midtown Madness so you can drive from city to city. People could use it to drive in the mountains during a snowstorm so they could learn the road before driving it for real. With a cluster-server environment and high bandwidth we could have 100,000's of people populating a virtual world. It would be kinda neat. Imagine the possiblities. track ----------------------- Hi Mike, I had a horrible thought when i read that extract above, i cut from your post.. Can you imagine the mayhem and fireworks that would occur into the 1st corner at Monza, with 65 sim drivers heading into the 1st corner, and no-one willing to be the last driver to enter the 1st turn. ?? LOL, i bet it would look a lot like the firework display Sydney put on for the the new Millenium celebrations, except that was organized chaos, this would be armageddon.!!! <G> Cheers, Ron

True enough for pick up races! But league races that use the "Pro" settings and GP length races? Then add the possibility that by then there will be "Internet racing stars" that know not to do this sort of thing, put them together and you have a Pro race that everyone will want to be like rather then today where they want to be like the people on TV. err, you know what I'm thinking. BTW: a pick up race with that many drivers would be the funniest thing to watch.. The name of the game is Grand Prix LEGENDS as Nascar LEGENDS. And in that perspective the cars aren't important but the legends who drove it. Some of those Legends still do in classic racing festivals. So if You want to do a classic race sim You have to be assured of Legends. I like the idea of Spirit of Speed 1937. Because of that same reason. Nuvolari winning at the Nurburgring in a dated Alfa Romeo ahead of Mercedes and Auto Union wich were the cars to beat at that time (OK he did it in 1936). It was an impossable job but he did it. That makes him a Legend. Don't get me wrong I love cars. But when I read the articles I'm the most interested in how they handle their cars. Because back then cars wheren't easy to drive as they are now. It takes a Legend to do that. Greetings Olaf

I remember reading a article in pc gamer a couple years back and it was something similar to this. I'm not exactly sure which company that was trying or thinking of doing this but it might have been Jane's(Easports), not sure. What they wanted to do was to take all their military sim's and combined them together so they could create a real time online total world war. So you could have strategy games making the calls for the air strikes or take out a political lead with hit man and the air strikes are controlled by online players in a flight sim like falcon 4 or the hit man would be in a rainbow6 kind of sim and all these sim's could be linked together. There was going to be Strategy games, Air Sims, Tank Sims, Naval Sims, Sub Sims, FPS(rainbow6)and a few other's all linked together. With 100,000 people fighting for their own country online in real time it would be pretty nuts to say the least. You could go away for a week and come back online only to find out that countries have been blown up or your squadron has been captured, except you because you were away. ;) I can't see it happening in the near future but maybe down the road, who knows. It would be something to see though. Jason Monds wrote:

Cool thanks, this is pretty much the same thing I was reading about a couple years ago, could be fun.

What you are describing already exists. It is called the "Outside World". I and a few others remember it from pre racing sim days. Let me tell you it aint nice out there!
