GPL + Force Feedback

7 posts by 6 people · 24 Feb 2000 - 29 Feb 2000

Hi all, I recently purchased GPL, and was so impressed I'm now looking at actually spending a few more $$$ to buy a wheel and pedal set - my question is, does the game support force feedback in any form? If so, what suggestions do you have for making it a more enjoyable experience? Any tweaks to the core.ini file that are required or recommended? thanks, Andrew +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ | Andrew Busch | email : [email hidden] |+ PhD Student | + | Research Concentration in Speech, | Just when you think something is |+ Audio and Video Technology | idiot-proof, somebody builds a + | QUT, AUSTRALIA | better idiot. |+-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+

Welcome to GPL, a fetish of the fifth order! You won't get too much argument that GPL has the best-implemented force feedback yet, and many of us think it adds immensely to the simulation. If you run a quick deja.com search, you'll find approximately 37,451 opinions on which is the best ff wheel. I use the Microsoft, which I think is great, but your mileage may vary. Whatever you do, get a wheel and pedal combination that supports split axis for the brake and throttle, which most (including the Microsoft) do. If you're not sure about a wheel you're considering, check back here. You'll want to patch GPL to version 1.2 (ff wasn't implemented in 1.0). You can find the patch at most sim sites on the web -- try www.theuspits.com for the patch, links, add-ons, etc. Boy, are you in for something! Have fun, Kurt Andrew Busch wrote in message ...

It seems that in general the Logitech Wingman Formula Force is accepted as the best FF wheel. People also agree it has very bad pedals. Alison Hine tried both the Microsoft and Logitech wheel, read her review on: http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/ You also can consider an Actlabs wheel, they seem to be good too. Once you get a FF wheel, there will be plenty of help on core.ini settings available. The Act Labs and Guillemot Ferrari wheel are both top notch units with excellent feedback strength. Slot "Andrew Busch" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Heh.. Living in Australia narrows the choices considerably, which I guess helps a little. The wheel I had finally decided on, the ACT-Labs Force RS, is only available for a HUGE amount of money. I saw a LWFF on sale cheap, so I've ordered one, and from what I've heard here, it's not a bad choice, even if it may not be the best. MSFF, Saitek, the Ferrari one, and the Force RS were all at least $50-$100 more than the Logitech price I got. regards, Andrew On Sun, 27 Feb 2000, Iain Mackenzie wrote:

So we've got recommendations on just about every wheel! Andrew must be really confused! I've heard that the Saitek is very good too, so where does that leave us? Congrats, good choice. When you get it and it appears a little sloppy, have a look at my webpage. Ball bearing conversion kits available very soon (no vaporware, I promise) Jens On Sun, 27 Feb 2000 18:04:45 +1000, Andrew Busch <[email hidden]> wrote:
