Thanks you for you observations. These, and others, have guided me in my decision not to buy the game. There has been to much negative comment regarding the complete package and that is enough for me to choose not to go for F1-2000. I shall now await the launch of GP3 and comments surrounding that game. Ditto World Sports Cars. In the meantime, GPL calls :-) Chris Bloom wrote:

Andrew, no hard feelings, but the car models in F1-2000 completely blow away those found in OF1R. With the new version of OF1R about to be released, I can't say for sure, but since I am a ?proud? owner of OF1R, there is simply NO comparison between it and F1-2000.. -- * rrev at mindspring dot com *

I agree with some of your other points but reach a different conclusion. I'm enjoying it and I will buy it. Regards Mike

1. The AI - I was trying differant strengths of AI competitiveness and found that at any strngth above 80% they would rocket down the straights (faster than me) and depending on what strength I had set, they were much slower round the corners than myself. Seems impossible to drive following another car like in GPL or GP2. 2. The Sound - Crap arcade like. The start sounds remind me of Pole Position or something! 3. The Graphics - Not too bad but how come they demand so much of the machine when GPL runs alot smoother at the same res and at least as much detail while implementing a far superior physics engine. 4. The Tracks - This really spoils it. Parts of tracks seem to bear no likeness to the real things. Especially the main straight at Monza. Okay Indy is a new F1 circuit but I have seen races on the speedway and the game doesn't really remind me of the place. The track texture/colour seems to be the same for all tracks? 5. The Physics - Not terrible, but the slides/skids etc seem to be a pit predictable and the same regardless of the corner. The grip on the grass seems to be too great. SCGT was better in the context of what it was trying to achieve. 6. Other things - I don't really think the car models are that accurate and it looks like they are being driven by children. I think if I was to waste money on this game (notice I don't say sim) I would end up getting bored within a few days and going back to GPL. Within a few months I would have GP3 and within all probarbility would never look at F1 2000 again. Think I will save my money. They don't appear as a cohesive set, but a collection of parts. I know this game is going to suck (because it's not GPL), but take a look at the car models for World Grand Prix by Lankhor (http://www.lankhor.com). They've done a much better job of modeling. Of course they have more polygons to work with because they are supporting hardware T&L of the GeForce cards. The first racing game that I know of that will take advantage of the GeForce.

I don't have the sim yet but is it possible that you had a more downforce setup so on straight the AI could outrun you? -Gregor
Andre Warringa 23 Mar 2000 11:24 UTC#285193
No, that's just the way the (stupid) AI works. This is even more noticable when you crank the AI up to 120%. F1 2000 is great for hotlapping and multiplayer, the AI is something they really have to work on. Hard. My opinion there is the biggest problem is FPS, AI is second problem because race is unplayable. -Jani Kankaanp- "Jo Helsen" <[email hidden]> kirjoitti viestiss news:[email hidden]...

I have that game too (OF1R) and wasn't all that impressed. There is also the sequel (OF1R '99) out today (I think), but World Grand Prix appears to be a new game due out this fall.

..... >I don't have the sim yet but is it possible that you had a more >downforce setup so on straight the AI could outrun you? > >-Gregor I don't have it either, but several people have reported that "increasing the level of the AI" results in higher speeds on the straights, while cornering speeds remain as usual. So this presumably results in VERY unrealistic behaviour of the AI when you race against them. So much for the "suspension of disbelief"... JoH

Every race I have had so far at least 3-4 drivers have gone out in the first lap and then another 2 by the 3rd or 4th lap. They have some sort of promblem with there cars wobbling from side to side as if they have wonkey wheels or something. Also the AI at 70% have this slowdown so you can catch em & then speed up so they get ahead of you built in to the game, I have watched replays where at monza I was going flat tack down the long straight at full thr in my Maclaeren, I was in 6th gear and the car had no more to give, anyway I watched a Jaguar AI car in my mirror zoom up and pass me and head of to the distance, where I caught him up again by the corner. Next race I swapped his car for mine and boy I couldnt catch that Maclearen at full thr, it was like the AI have extra power when they need it just so they can pass you and make it a bit more intresting or something. Anyway anyone who buys this based on the Wearz release for anything other than M/P is really going to moan out load here about how crap the AI is in this game, My god even the AI in GP2 geive you a more better race than in F1 2000. Other than that the game looks ok, but its no Superbike 2000, now that game looks like magic and the AI is very smart. Hotdog
