I attended last years Austrian GP, and totally agree. The braking point for the Goesserkurve (from 280kph down to about 80) is at about 70 m. And that is in a _downhill_ section. For the Remuskurve (which is even slower) it is 50 m, uphill. Awesome. Another thing that impressed me was the observation of shifting points. The distance the car travels while accelerating from 2nd to 3rd gear (out of the Remuskurve) is only 30 meters -> less than a second between the gearchanges. Your description of it sounding like a controlled crash is very accurate. James, I was at the USGP (Phoenix) in 1990, and the braking was one of the things that astounded me the most. It just looked impossible what they were doing. They reported, at the time, that they were braking from 175-180 mph, on the main straight, to 50 mph, for a 90 degree right-hander, in less than 2 seconds . Until a person has seen it with their own eyes, up close, it is hard to imagine they could do this. With the engine noise, gear crunching, tire howl, etc., braking for a corner like that sounds like a (very loud) controlled crash. Of course, Nigel M., in the Ferrari, made a lot more noise than Senna ..:) -- * rrev at mindspring dot com *

I agree with most of you that the game is a big dissapointment, but however I do feel that we'll be able to make a nice hotlap and online racer out of it. Every variable is changeable, and as far as I could see it does change the player car. If that's right we only need to change the sound and some aspects of the model. First we would need to get the braking distances longer, F1 cars brake good but not this good. At the end of the straight at Monza I brake at about 60 metres with very little wing, that's impossible. We need to get it up to about 120 metres. It would be nice to be able to change the feeling of the brake pedal as well but I'm not sure whether that's feasible. There are further lacks in the model but I'm not really able to pinpoint them. Next thing on my list would be to change the track layouts, I'm quite sure we can make something more decent out of them. Is it possible?

Well James I don't doubt your vision but your actually saying that he turned in at about 300. Are you sure? I watched some inboard shots and during the race they all braked just before the crossover at the first corner. Do you know the distance from this crossover to the entry? I'm quite sure all driver brake about 100-120 metres before the first chicane at Monza. I just changed the braking ratio in the default.veh to 6200 and that accomplished the braking distance I think is right. It makes it harder (a bit impossible)to block the front wheels at high speed. I agree with you that the lack of qualifying in multiplayer is a big shame, to me qualifying is the best part of racing (online and offline). Does anybody know whether it's possible to do a multiplayer race with different default.veh files? That could make a nice championship. BTW is there anyway of finding people to race with? Is it possible? In other words, there isn't much good about the product? F1 2000 smells of a half-baked product pushed out the door to coincide with the opening of the real F1 2000 season. I agree with some of the things you said. Hotlapping, yes.. it is great for just jumping in and driving a Formula 1 car. Multiplayer.. Yes.. the code is great.. works well. The only hangup I have is that you can't run a Practise session or qualitying session.. which puts pay to running a decent online league :-( Maybe in the patch... About the the braking, I have to dissagree. Formula 1 cars have the most phenominal brakes. I REALLY mean awesome... I watched the Melbourne qualifying session from the pits straight... Yes they are fast.. yes they accelerate and corner fast.. but the most amazing site was on Schumacher's fastest lap.... He crossed the start finish line and headed down to turn 1. He went passed the 150 meter board, passed the 100, PASSED the 50, and THEN HE TURNED IN and only after that did he hit the brakes!!! I watched him turn into turn 1 BEFORE he braked!!!!!!! Just think about that..! He TURNED in BEFORE he BRAKED!!!! (from some 300 kph to about 120ish) So that tells me just how amazing these cars are...
