In any car, how can you look at the 'top of the hood' if you are
'looking through the windshield'?

In all vehicles I have drove except my van you look out the windshield and
view the top of the hood and fenders. Guess I will imagine I am setting too
far back I guess. LOL
Thanks for the reply...

So I guess you have never sat in a Nascar racecar?
If so, I can assure you that you can't see the TOP of
the hood.
Go away.

I guess you will have to imagine that you are sitting in a -racecar- where one
function of placing a seat is to LOWER the CG of the car. You sit a little
(or a lot) lower in a racecar than a regular sedan or a van.
HTH.

Gary
Duh, I have two cars and when I look through the windshield of either one of
them I can see the "top of the hood". Is this concept that difficult for you
to understand?

Problem
is, the current NASCAR hoods slope so sharply that I don't think you can see
the hood (whichever side or angle of it) from the cockpit anyway--so the N3
view is likely very accurate.

In fact
some-one created a utility to automatically swap out dashes for the
various cars. You are right about the colors, you basically have to
paint a dash for each car, so that the 44 hotwheels car matches it's
overall paintscheme, vs the #3 Chevy which would be black and white.
In SCGT I prefer the dashes that also show the fenders, it gives me a
better feel of where my car's boundaries are. In most of those cars you
have exagerated wheel housings that are easily visible from the cockpit.
But the Revved one is correct, the Winston Cup drivers sit much lower
in the car than we do driving normal vehicles, they probably don't see
much of the hood(bonnet) at all. Jeff Gordon plowed into a wheel that
was 20 feet in front of his car this past weekend at Bristol and that
too was likely caused by the fact the drivers sit soooo low in the
vehicle, that they just can't see much up close. Schrader, Waltrip, and
Benson pretty much confirmed this on the Nascar show they have on
Mondays.

driver seat as well...take, for example, my dad's 1994 Camaro Z28 (though
all '93-newer Camaros are basically the same in this respect, though you may
be able to see the scoop on an SS). You can't see a bit of the hood from
inside the car. (Of course, visibility in general in that car isn't the
greatest thanks to the huge roof pillars, but as long as you can see forward
to where you're going and backward to who you're beating :) He once
commented, after he and I had spent a few hours washing and waxing it, that
it was a shame you couldn't see it...he also remarked that on his '73 911 he
could.
