CART race result and spoiler etiquette

A post congratulated Max Papis on his first CART win, at Homestead, and called for a new Papyrus CART sim. Steve Pritchard objected to the lack of a spoiler tag, which led to debate about spoiler etiquette. Posters also lamented that Eurosport had dropped live CART coverage in Europe and that no new CART sim was in development.

Nothing worse than loads of DNFs for making a race tedious. Hopefully either a short oval or road course next! - Michael

Congrats to Max Papis on his first CART win! anyone care to speculate about all the DNFs? Congrats to the vest drivers in the world for a crash free race! CART rules! Papy needs to make a new CART sim! (now it's on topic)
Thanks for the large and obvious 'SPOILER' tag on the title of your message...

I thought the subject was pretty obvious. If you don't want to know then you shouldn't come to the newsgroup and read messages with that subject matter. Michael K. No worries, but I was trying to avoid knowing the result of the race until I'd watched it later.
True to a certain extent, but it is possible to discuss a race without necessarily giving away the outcome. read messages with that subject matter.<< If I was being picky (which I'm not), then I could claim that I didn't read it on a CART newsgroup, and that the post had little to do with simulators (as, I think, the original poster conceded). Cheers, Steve.

Naa, apart from having SPOILER written in your header, you made it fairly obvious as to what was in your post with that header, all IMHO of course :-) -- Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "Team Mirage" http://www.teammirage.com/ "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com

Talking of CART...Isn't it about time we had a decent CART sim release? CPR (which wasn't even good anyway, IMHO) was a long time ago. Hiya "Bomber" :-) I must say that it puzzles me more than a bit that nobody seems to be working on one, at least not officially, given the relative high popularity of this series on a world wide basis, it should be possible to make money from such a title... Speaking of popularity, was the absence of a CART race on Eurosport this weekend something for this weekend only, or have they given up on the rights to show the races live ? I do believe that Papy actually has rights to do a CART sim, or at least they did not too long ago, if nothing else, we'd get more road courses for GPL and N3/TPTCC :-))) -- Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "Team Mirage" http://www.teammirage.com/ "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ * Spam is for losers who can't get business any other way * "Spamkiller" http://www.spamkiller.com
Can't speak for Norway, old chap, but we here in the UK got the whole race live, which caused the NASCAR Bristol race recording to be delayed at least 90 minutes...and thanks for remembering the Bomber bit! I just felt it was right to post/race under my real name....you (rarely) see an irresponsible driver using a real name (apart from me, of course) -- Colin Harris ColinHarris in N3/NL Proud co-owner - CLONE N.Legends league http://members.chello.se/clone/index.htm ICQ 25485061 > > Talking of CART...Isn't it about time we had a decent CART sim release? It should sell more than GPL because of larger appeal, but would it still be enough ? Eurosport dropped it because CART raised the price. The only motorsport we get in Norway this year is F1 with the excellent insight of Jon Herwig Carlsen :) First the loss of two great drivers, then the loss of a great team owner and then the loss of the whole coverage. It's so sad I don't know what to say. I posted some weeks ago a statement found on deja.com where someone from papy promised a new CART sim based on the GPL engine for 1999........ -- Olav K. From now on, you only get to see it live if you have British Eurosport (which I don't!). Otherwise all you get is a midweek highlights show... -- Cheers! Graeme Nash

Having 'SPOILER' in the header would have allowed by OLR to tag it differently so I didn't automatically read it...
With hindsight, yes. However, there is nothing saying that the post was necessarily going to declare the result of the race. Steve.
I getting a bit bored of this, but to answer your question, Bruce, I would not 'blindly walk in'. All I asked (maybe I was a little sarcastic in my original post) is that an obvious 'SPOILER' tag be put on messages. In my defence, there is a lot of stuff that could have been in the original message, titled as it was, without giving the result away, e.g. "Did you see the way a few of the cars managed to collect themselves before hitting the wall, why can't I do that in ICR2?" "With all the engine retirements, it was like they were playing F1 2000" etc, etc... Anyway, I think I made my point, I'll not be mentioning it again. Cheers, Steve.

It's so sad I don't know what to say. Yeah, never drove much of the CART sims, but the series is very good on TV, especially with guys like Zanardi, Montoya, Franchitti and (hate to admit it :-) Andretti, that knows how to race and overtake, great show > I posted some weeks ago a statement found on deja.com where someone from papy > promised a new CART sim based on the GPL engine for 1999........ Yes, I think that was a reply to the "public outcry" (hey, there was at least 3 of us :-) after they acquired the exclusive rights, but seemed to have not intentions of making the sim....guess only time will tell.... It doesn't know if I've seen the race or not, but if it sees the word 'SPOILER' in the subject it marks it as read, and tags it. That way I don't open it by accident as I move from message to message. Cheers, Steve.
