Midtown Madness: Wheel not working

Hello- I have the current game hardware setup: MS Percision Pro Joystick (game port) MS Percision Racing Wheel (USB) When I run Midtown Maddness, the wheel is not used. I set the control options to use "steering wheel" and it will not work. Surprisingly though, the joystick seems to be working in the game (not the plan at all!) So I tried to rearrange the order of the game controllers to wheel = 1 and joystick = 2 but it did the same thing. So then I just removed the joystick and the wheel worked! Anyideas of how I can fix this since I don't want to remove my joystick before I play, and reinstall it later. Thanks -capt. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

I have the exact same 2 controllers, and had the exact same problem. Since I didn't use the joystick much, I just left it disconnected. I couldn't find a way to fix it until I got a couple extra USB ports, and plugged the joystick into one of them too. Then the wheel worked fine in all my games, including Midtown. I guess the fact that the joystick was in the gameport must somehow make it take priority over the wheel, but when they are both in USB, they are on equal priority so the wheel works fine. My problem was that I couldn't actually assign the wheel to postion 1 in the game controlers panel (it always returned the joystick back to 1, no matter what), but once they were both on USB it worked fine. Try putting it in USB if you have extra ports. If not, you may want to get a USB card that just has a PCI connection inside the computer and gives 2 extra ports. I found this a lot cheaper than a hub. Hope this helps, Marc

I set mine up as wheel in options and when the game starts it "forgets" and sets it back to keyboard causing me to have to escape and set it to wheel again. Needless to say this removes my button setup. Any ideas? Boy, I had that problem too. Weird. I changed some files from read-only to non-read-only. It was not storing the information you entered and going back to the default. Not sure why this happened, or what files to change. Try things that would make sense, like player data or controller stuff. Go through the Midtown Madness folder and change anything that you think shouldn't be read-only.
