Your soundcard only supports A3D1.0 and is the original Vortex design,

its an option)?

with 32mb video memory, diamond sonic impact s90 (with A3d) sound card. The
game used to play slowly on my system as well, until I removed the %^$$##
A3d sound card. My framerate improved, I shit you not, by 300%. I can now
play the game with everything maxed out, with ten cars, and the game is fast
as hell. I do not want it any faster.
Maybe this helps a few people. The problem is most likely your sound card.

When I installed F12000, it didn't give me the option to enable A3D
sound... the option is greyed out.
Anyway, I found an INI fiole and set it on in there, but I took a big
frame rate hit... i mean serious lag... slideshow almost.
But it DID sound better...
anyone else have any solutions for using A3D sound in F1-2000... or is
it just asking too much from this game... We've already lost the
mirrors... SIGH

Ed,
Which drivers are you using for the MX300? The option wasn't greyed
out for me, and I'm using the 2048 reference drivers. I haven't tried
disabling A3D sound, but am going to now and see if I get a boost in
frame rate.

Andy,
I'm using Diamond's MX300 drivers, not the refernce drivers from A3D.
The Diamond Driver I have installed are the "latest" from Diamond, which
really aren't that current since S3 bought Diamond and screwed up
support, IMO.
May I'll try the reference drivers, as I'm pretty sure the Diamond
drivers I have installed do not have DX7 support (they're DX6 i think).
Let me know if turning off A3D sound helped your frame rate... cause if
it does NOT help you, then maybe I have a driver problem with my MX300.

Ed

Ed,
I see no difference in frame rate with A3D disabled. I just did a
quick test, but I am getting exactly the same frame rate as I did with
A3D enabled. (using FRAPS to measure the FPS)
I was actually hoping for a boost. :-)
I'd strongly suggest trying the reference drivers, they fix a ton of
problems, and the latest (and probably the last build, 2048) adds EAX
support.
Not sure if they will do anything for F12000, but the drivers you are
using are very old! The new ones will at least be less of a load on
your CPU. (from what I've read, haven't done any tests myself)

I guess I
must have missed it on the install. I have a MX300 with the latest Aureal
drivers and would like to try it out. However, I have installed the tobacco
car updates, setups, graphic tweaks, AI changes, etc. and would hate to have
to re-install all that just to get A3D. Does anyone know if there is a
setting change in one of the config files that will work?

Just run F1 2000 setup, and the check box is at the bottom right had
side of the screen. You should be able to enable and disable it at
will.

Thanks for the info Andy... I downloaded the latest A3D reference
drivers (2048) last night, but I haven't had a chance to install them
and try them out.
With the old Diamond drivers, I experienced serious lag in F1-2000, but
it DID sound a lot better.
I'm gonna try the new drivers tonight, and then re-install the game to
see if the A3D option is enabled in the setup.
Thanks,
Ed

Look in your F1-2000 directory... there is an INI file that has a
number of options in it... look for a line with reads "A3D=0" and
change it to "A3D=1".... thats seems to enable A3D sound.

Ed,
Well, now I am not sure. When I did that quick test, I only ran
F12000 for a short time, (didn't make a complete lap) and I didn't
reboot. Later, I rebooted, and ran F12000, and it seemed to run a bit
faster for me as well. (I forgot to enable A3D again) I will run it
again today with it disabled and enabled, and I'll reboot between
tries.
I still think you should install the new drivers for the reasons I
posted before. If you want to disable SB Pro emulation during
install. (a good idea if you don't need it) following the
instructions below. You can also rem out the following line in your
autoexec.bat file
LH C:\WINDOWS\AU30DOS.COM
To disable SB Pro emulation do the following.
Copy the driver folder from the install CD (or download the latest
reference drivers and unzip them) to a directory on your hard drive.
Load the AU30MMED.INF file in WordPad or Notepad. Navigate down to
this section of the file: [AspenOverides.Addreg].
Remove the semi-colon from the line
;HKR,Config,DisableSBFM,1,1
so that it reads
HKR,Config,DisableSBFM,1,1
Good luck, and let me know how you make out.
Andy
