Andre, you can find my programme set for Riverside, with the correct track map, as well as programmes for Long Beach, Fontana, Laguna Seca, Old Sears Point and Phoenix on Bruce Kennewell's site: http://www2.tpg.com.au/users/brucek/hmrc/index.htm ,scroll down to the bottom of the page, or on the alt.binaries.simulators.autos newsgroup. I'll be working the Long Beach Grand Prix this week but will continue with the programmes when I return. I hop[e you enjoy<g>. -- don [|]-(_)-[|] Andre Warringa <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Why is it that the most beautiful track available for GPL, Riverside, > is allmost never seen at VROC? Why is it that the most beautiful track available for GPL, Riverside, is allmost never seen at VROC? Everytime when I host a Riverside race, allmost nobody joins. When I choose a Monza or Spa race it's filled up within minutes. Riverside is such a perfect track for GPL, first some nice twisty hey-is-this-the-Ring bends, then a long oh-no-it's-Spa straight, perfect for slipstreaming, and to top it off a nice oops-it's-Bristol banking! People, this track alone is worth buying Nascar Legends! BTW, I thought I was good with my 1.18 lap... untill I went to Schubi's site and watched the 1.15 replay by Woeger... Sigh... The cover at Turn 1 has a wrong track map by the way, probably an older version of Riverside? Andre

Andre, here is a link to a Riverside program set that has the correct map layout: http://www2.tpg.com.au/users/brucek/hmrc/index.htm It's my first effort at an event program for GPL, and I'll probably go back and re-do it at some time, but the map page should work for you. The map in the Long Beach set is also correct for the converted ICR2 version. -- don "Getting hit by a meteorite is an accident... everything else is driver-error." I still get a tear in my eye as I pass the site of the old place. I spent years at that track, working, spectating, shooting and a very little bit of racing, it was like home. I still can't believe they let it be plowed under. Ontario was one thing, it hadn't been around long and it was obvious that it was the wrong track in the wrong place and time, but Riverside was a National Treasure which should have been nurtured and supported, not cast aside by a bunch of bean countin' land developers. rant over...yeah it's business, blah, blah, blah, I know...but I still miss the place. Big thanks go out to Papy for giving us the first decent simulation of the track and to Dave Noonan for making it better. I wonder if he could do a "tires in the esses" patch for NL. Now we need to get someone working on Turn 7-7a, it's like driving on your favorite freeway on-ramp, over and over again...with no cops<g>. Here is a link to a site that has a few old photos of Riverside in the Image Archive. NASCAR fans might like the shot of Earnhart, Allison and Waltrip exiting turn 8 together. http://simracing.com/eta/ -- don "Getting hit by a meteorite is an accident... everything else is driver-error." I also think that it is a wonderful track in its own right and was a quite the favorite with many drivers of the era. It has a nice combination of slow and fast corners. When I get below 1:30 I'll be happy to join you, if only to watch you disapear into the afternoon sun. Right now I'm several seconds a lap faster in a Super Bird than a Ferrari. Riverside is certainly one of the all time great tracks though, and we're all the poorer for its absence. Nice tacky condos though. So Cal really needed a couple hundred acres more of those, don't you think?

They killed it ages ago, to put up condos and houses and a mall. Same thing happened to the Ontario track too. Mostly the problem, I think, was that they weren't able to make enough money to keep the creditors at bay, and the value of the land went up so much that it made more sense to sell out. The new California Speedway is, btw, built near where the Ontario track was, but on an old Steel Mill property that probably would take too much work cleaning up to be economical to put a housing development on. I agree that Riverside is wonderful; it's one of the best tracks available for GPL, IMHO. I, too mourn the loss of the real Riverside, and am very grateful to Papyrus and Dave Noonan for making it available for us in NL and GPL. I'm also enormously grateful to Dave Noonan for making the extra effort to put in those tires along the esses! For people who may be having trouble coming up with setups for Riverside and/or the other new conversion tracks, I've posted all of my most recent development setups on my Web site. Go to the News page at http://eaglewoman.maximumspeed.com/gpl/ and look for The X-Files. Alison On Tue, 11 Apr 2000 17:56:54 -0700, "don hodgdon" <[email hidden]> wrote:

About a year ago I went out to what was Riverside raceway. About 75% of what was the track is empty land. Turn 6 is now a shopping center. There is about 150 feet of the front straight I think is just after the start finish line. Concrete wall outside and asphalt wall on the inside. Wish I had enough money to buy the property. I'd put up a motorsport sports bar. Just build right over the last section, put a glass top bar on top of the concrete wall. And of course have about a dozen computers LAN'ed together for the weekly league races. Have sunday brunch and watch the latest GP (taped earlier of course!). But I could never come up with a good name for the place. The Last Lap The Finish Line The Checked Flag The Winners Circle All seem a little tacky. Maybe something like The Virtual Dricers Club? buzard "Alison Hine" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
