Yeah..I am feeling more like I joined some kind of shady smuggling operation
than the factory driving team of an upscale sportscar mfg. I'm glad someone
else noticed this.

Yo Porsche Unleashed drivers,
Is anyone else surprised at the image of the "Test Driver" that's
portrayed in NFS:PU? I mean, it certainly would be a glamorous
profession, but this game elevates their status to even higher levels
(or lower levels, depending on your perspective). While I don't
really believe that it's an accurate portrayal, I'm still surprised
that Porche let them do that. I mean, we've got the test drivers
delivering illegal (I presume) Boxters to boat docks at night.
Slamming cop cars. Having impromptu races on back roads. Causing
general mayhem, basically.
These days companies are so uptight about lawsuits and so on, it's
refreshing to see a company with more balls than that. Hell, they
even threw in rudimentary damage graphics, something that most
manufacturers are afraid to allow in games that use their vehicles.
I'm impressed, --mK
It IS an impressive game.
I'm not all that surprised at the "Test Driver" image -- I figure all
the back road races occur on Porsche-owned sections of track (the
traffic is, uh, Porsche employees taking a shortcut across the track to
the back gate, maybe? <G>). The "deliveries" would be, uh, surprise
birthday deliveries for the CEO's mistress . . . er, wife, that is.
The damage is a MUST-HAVE, to help prepare all the would-be hotshoe
Porsche owners for the astronomical repair bills they face should their
hamfisted lack of driving ability ever result in crumpled sheetmetal.
See, when you look at it in this context, Porsche probably MANDATED
these features in the game . . .
;-)

Not that there's anything wrong with shady smuggling operations,
right? Be careful how you answer -- you already know too much and I'd
hate to have to whack you . . . <G>
