I saw a copy of MGPRS2 at EB for $19 dollars today, it had a copyright date of 1999 on the box is this an upgraded version? Is this racer better and more fun than F12000? I'm really staying away from F12k because of the crappy framerates. Also the clerk at EB stated that GPL had been called back. He thought they might be re-releasing the title soon? Thanks jj

[NB: All this info is from the UK - should still apply to you, though] My UK MGPRS2 box is the original, with no copyright date (on the outside, anyway). If the US version has been re-released in a different box then that's what the date will apply to. I doubt it's an upgraded version - you'll still need to get the upgrade patch, which is a must as the original had some strange bugs (eg the sound cutting out, force feedback needing two goes to work properly). F12000 is probably (I haven't played it) better than MGPRS2 (it should be, considering it's a couple of years newer). The problem is that it eats resources - you really need a P-III with 128 megs. Whereas I can run MGPRS2 at 800x600 on my 64 meg Celeron 400 without any stuttering. The most important thing to note about MGPRS2 is that it is not officially licensed - so you'll get made-up teams and drivers unless you download a "reality patch". The circuits are the real 1998 ones, though (except Monaco) their names aren't used. As to the game itself, it's quite advanced for its day. It's no arcade game - there are a *lot* of setup options, and they do have a noticeable effect. There are lots of rule options (eg max 30 laps in free practice - this game has: free practice 1, fp2, qualifying, warmup, race) and it's one of the few sims to include changeable weather (it's *so* annoying when you have a wet qualifying session, and you use up all your laps just before it dries up - especially if you've got the 107% rule on!) I got my copy of MGPRS2 for ten quid (USD16 or so), and haven't regretted it. I'd hesitate at full price, but on budget it's a steal. As far as GPL is concerned, it's been out on the budget Sierra Originals label for a while now (though still in v1.0 form). Trouble is, that label is *seriously* hard to find in this part of the world. -- David. "After all, a mere thousand yards - such a harmless little knoll, really." (Raymond Mays on Shelsley Walsh)

MGPRS2 is a very good sim but like all others, it has some bads aspects. MGPRS2 has, since its release in october 98, got a lot of patches (6). So i think the version you just buy include some patches. The framerate is very good in MGPRS2 even in 1158X8.. but you have just to have a good PC. As you remark, Ubisoft did not receive the license but a tons of tweaks resolve this problem. I know a very good french-speak web site which include a tons of uptated graphics in order to completely change MGPRS2. www.f1racing.dpn.ch The behaviour of the cars is very simulation-oriented (more than F1 2000) but, for the non-experts, the cars are more difficult to drive than F1 2000. They are a lot of cool stuff like telemetry and complete setups for the hardcore sim lovers. Now, I think F1 2000 is just a little more fun to play but don't forget that MGPRS2 has 2 years and at 19$, you don't do a mistake. It says, "It's available via the Garage icon after a minimum of one lap of the race". You can look at the following details: Speed Gear Wheel travel for each wheel Wheel camber for each wheel Front & rear ride height Throttle and Brake %age Steering angle Wheel rotation for each wheel -- David.
