Request for a free copy of the GPL converter
A poster asked for someone to share the full version of Dave Noonan's commercial GPL converter. Others firmly refused and urged him to support Noonan by paying 15 pounds. Francois Dubuc's sarcastic post mocking Noonan as one of the 'bad guys' was taken seriously by some before he explained the joke.

It's not shareware - you gotta pay for it if you want the real deal.
Does anyone have a copy of David Noonan's GPL converter. The full
version not the demo? Please post it .
TIA
I'll gladly give him my copy!! Just send me $30.00 and I'll send it to
him. ;-)

Yes I have it. It cost me 15 which was money well spent. Support Dave
Noonan like the rest of us.

Dave Noonan has already given the Sim Racing community so much
for free and all of it superb quality. Because of his proven
track record I had no problems paying for the GPL Converter.
If you want Dave Noonan to continue working his miracles then I
suggest you buy the converter from him. If you don't want to
pay for it then you will have to go without.

Firstly, no I don't. It's fine value and an excellent product, but I
prefer to keep my GPL-ing to F1 circuits. That's not to say I might not
get the plastic out eventually....
Secondly, and more importantly, no. Dave Noonan has worked very hard on
his product, and it's entirely his decision how (or even if!) he makes
it available. If he wanted to charge 200 and make everyone who got it
sign a solemn pledge to shout "Koosh Ball" every time they used it,
then he could. In other words, either pay your money honestly or don't
use it.
Any full version posted would be "warez" - to put it in plain language,
theft. And this isn't a binaries NG in any case....

Well, for the record, Riverside is an F1 course, as is the new Glen. Well,
ok, the new Glen *with* the boot is an F1 course. Dave, can ya teak it for
us? No 60's F1 track collection is complete without Riverside.
Laguna Seca isn't an F1 course, but it's a mighty fine track and an
international course at least. I have right here sitting before me an R&T
report of a certain S. Moss winning the 1960 Pacific Grand Prix there. Ok,
it was for sports cars, but there's really little to distiguish a Lotus 19
from an 18. Just a bit of extra space for your lunch box really.
Of course, Laguna is also the site of the Monterey Historic meets, so damn
near everything that's ever been made has been actually raced there in some
form or another. Consider it an F1 vintage race and go for it.

Unless you can find a warez copy. Not that I premote the use of warez,
but it's bound to be available on an FTP server or binary newsgroup

Now I'm sick and tired of all the people that place Mr Noonan
somewhere between God and Christ!
The guy decided to SELL his software, so he's now part of the bad
guys! I say, let's burn him with all the others!
Where's the patch for that unuseable piece of crap he sells as a
converter, eh? It's been a few weeks since it's been released and
still we don't hear anything about a patch? We want a patch!

Hum... Once again, Internet's multi-cultural barrier strikes...
Maybe my english is not good enough to convey sarcasm... Ok then I'll
explain:
You guys are usually pretty tough critics for any sim developper that
comes up. So I was referring to that toughness on developpers when I
said that Dave (who is now a commercial software developper since he
sells software that he develops) should receive the same tough critics
as others do.
And then, I advanced a few examples, wich are (or so I thought) quite
familiar to us on R.A.S. :
1- Asking for a patch. That one's so obvious I shouldn't even explain
but I will. When a new piece of software hits the rack, we usually
find all the bugs within a few weeks and ask for a patch. Now since
Dave's converter has been out for a few weeks I was asking where was
the patch. That's the first place where people should be laughing, ar
at least smiling.
2- Asking for someone to send a copyrighted program via e-mail. Now
that is something I've seen so often but it still makes me smile when
I see someone coming back with that scheme... People find the
funniest excuses, like "my CD is scratched" or "I deleted it by
mistake" or whatever. I agree that this one was not ment to inspire a
loud burst of laughter, but still I wish some of you would've raised
an eyebrow and smiled...
Oh well... Maybe I'm not as talented as I thought I was... I think
I'll just crawl under my desk now and disappear from RAS for a few
months... Sorry Bruce...

I hope one of those updates is the Boot for the Glen!! By the looks of
it, Track section 50 would have to be split up. The entrance would jet off
of that and then section 53 or 54 would again have to be split up for the
exit of the boot. From there, I would assume the rest of the sections would
have to be remade or at least renumbered. I have in car video of the boot
and could get many photos for it. I'm also sure that the Glen web page has
elevation figures for it. If not, I can get it from the right people. So,
everything that's needed is easily got with the exception of the programmer
to do it.

Nowhere did I say anything about Dave working or not working on a
patch... But from his previous work, I wouldn't hold my breath as he
usually starts working on new stuff immediately after he releases
something... But hey, we never know! I don't really know if there
are any bugs tho since I can't race right now due to a steering wheel
failure... I'm scared I'll lose my (already not so great) skills at
