How much longer must we wait for GP3 to come and save us from the bowels of the hell which all sim racers are in right now? F12k would be good if it didn't have such lousy frame rate and AI. How come every car locks up their brakes on every corner even during the formation lap? My guess is that EA is very proud of their smoke effects!! :)

>"Iain Mackenzie" <[email hidden]> wrote > BTW, turn smoke (and dust) off to improve frame rates Why should I have to turn off an essential element to racing simulation such as smoke to have a acceptable framerate? Lol, they are bad in that first turn on the starts. I have to wonder though, how much of a graphics hog will GP3 be? -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends "Tomlani" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > How much longer must we wait for GP3 to come and save us from the bowels of the > hell which all sim racers are in right now? Beefy Eagle kicks sand in the face of Lotus 98lb weakling. Ha. Oh man... then my friend really needs to upgrade his PC (I'm a notebook user) so I can see this. So tell me, because I gather from your posts you are one of the more experienced online racers, does the smoke give you valuable information about when the guy ahead is overdriving his car, or do people mostly take advantage of really large errors? As for GPL, it does not incorporate recent championships. I will not have enough until I get GP3!! Ryath Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

However, I think you'll find that turning down detail like smoke is pretty normal to get any sim (GPL, GP2, etc.) running acceptably to suit your system. Stating the obvious, but there is always a trade off with detail and frame rate - it is up to you how you deal with it. Iain

It seems to be the way new releases are going these days, lots of eye candy and graphics hogs, then let the systems catch up to them. I don't see it as a problem with their game engine, just that they loaded the graphics up too much for most of today's processors. Bet you had to turn some GP3 options off to get it to run acceptable as well? I know I sure did. Still though, I do fault them for not supporting glide, I think they could have achieved better results . -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:H5rL4.39934$[email hidden]... > > Why should I have to turn off an essential element to racing simulation such > as smoke to have a acceptable framerate? I guess you haven't played SBK 2000, Let's be honest folks - ISI doesn't have a vey good graphics engine. Period. Joe McGinn _____________________ Radical Entertainment
Well, with AI races I wouldn't really care, but online it might be a useful clue about where the guy ahead of you is consistently overdriving the car. But I imagine this kind of information isn't passed down the pipe anyway, which would be a shame (the computer I have used for GPL was never potent enough to display smoke in online races, so I really don't know what it does). I guess I've just found a little experiment to do tonight... does GPL properly display the smoke from your (online) competitors' tires? Stephen

Yes, GPL does....better yet, it also models dirt, which comes in handy on Spa, so you can spray some of the dirt in the face of that Lotus driver behind you <g> Remco

Well, if a car in front hits the dirt, you can expect a spin. Also, someone who's locking all 4 wheels every corner has a great chance to miss a corner soon. (Except if his name is Allan Scott <g>). You can also see what kind of brakebias is used by the other drivers, if you watch them during qualify. People where the rearwheels lock first should be avoided, and people where the frontwheels lock very easy could be outbraked. The overdriving part is only used when you really know the driver who's locking wheels.... Remco

I can live with turning off eye-candy if there is enough meat in the rest of the package to make it worth it. Using Glide in NFS:PU doesn't seem to enhance the frame rate over Direct3D. I still feel that F12000 was released well before it was finished and one of the many things that weren't optimized was the graphics. A glide version of f12k won't be any better until they optimize their graphics engine. -- **************************** Michael E. >>Aren't you two overlooking the real problem (whether you have smokeenabled or not): The AI have smoking tyres for every corner even in formation lap, that doesn't happen in real does it? Or how about 4 cars crashing out in formation lap! Realistic? Nah! << Different sim to what I use then! Doesn't happen with me. >>It's damn hard to get your car out of balance/spinning if you go wide andvisit the grass/kerbs. << Again, you're running a different sim from me. Push the car near its limits (on or off track) and see what out of balance/spinning you get. Very realistic. Iain
