Hmm on my second ever race at Silverstone I managed to put my Lotus on
the front row with a mid 91sec. I haven't come close to this in any
other circuit. Since then I have run a mid 90 second.
Is Silverstone an easy circuit?
Is Silverstone the easiest GPL track
A player got onto the front row at Silverstone in only his second race and asked if the track was easy. Some agreed that its quick flicks make beating the AI easier, while many others found it hard because of few brake markers and Abbey's tricky turn-in. A modified Glide rasteriser without mip-mapping was offered to improve visibility.

That's strange.
I got pole position at Silverstone on my first attempt too.
Can't even get close on the other tracks.

I think Silverstone is just about the "easiest" circuit in the game to
beat the AI because of the nature of some of the turns.
The quick left-hand flicks lead on to straights and you can get through
those much quicker than AI cars seem to be able to, and so gain a lot of
time.

go too slow to make up any time...

Sorry... Silverstone drives me nuts!!! I don't know if it's the lack
of a rich field of trackside objects (like Monza or Watkins Glen) or
the lack of elevation changes, but I am ALWAYS turning in too late!
My principle skill developed at Silverstone is to be able to drive
most of the length of the Hangar and Farm straights in the grass
without spinning as I normally go off the outside of the corners that
enter them.
No, I don't feel Silverstone is particularly easy...

I don';t think its unrealistic from my experiences but back in the '60's the
track was much more "simplified" to drive so not too many challenging
corners.

With Club (T6R) you'll have to get on the brakes as soon as the large
signs on the left disappear from sight. Abbey is a weird turn...
there is a tendancy to go too fast here. But I think going down to
third gear and taking it easy is the best approach... a good exit is
better than ending up in the haybale.
You should be overly aggresive at Maggots (T2L). You can overcook the
turn but it's easy to recover. I usually just tap the brakes and a
slight jerk of the wheel left.

Silverstone is very difficult for me. Abbey especially, I never know
exactly where to turn in. When I get it right, it is very satisfying,
but its by luck more than anything else.

can't always tell where the turn-in/apex/etc. is. It's more pronounced at
Silverstone and Spa, but it also occurs in a couple other tracks. I'm not sure
why that is, although another thread suggested it may be in my monitor. I'm
using a 15" monitor in 640x480 resolution. If I had a 19"+ Panasonic or

If you're using a voodoo card, this might be of help. A couple of

remove mip-mapping. For me this has made it easier to see details
further away, especially at low resolutions (I usually use 640x480
myself). On the downside, this will increase flickering. Try it to see
which one suits you best. It won't even overwrite any files, it just
adds another rastersizer to choose from.
