Re: NASCAR LEGENDS DEMO IS OUT

NASCAR Legends demo released months after the game

Posters noted that a NASCAR Legends demo appeared long after the full game had been released, which several called backwards marketing. Others discussed whether the demo tracks such as Riverside could be used with Dave Noonan's track converter for GPL and the licensing questions involved, and complained about broken download mirrors.

It's just you ;-) Try the primary download sites as the mirrors are not updated for a day or two. That's how mirrors work. Jason. GraDee wrote:

It doesn't seem to be selling well, so we'll include it in a bundle with N3(got it already) and CTS(unwanted, even by the retailers). I see no inconsistency there. Dimwit. In the farcical attempt to partake in this elevated discussion of the legal merits of obtaining tracks for use with games other those for which it was originally intended, I offer: I'd bet Papy's license doesn't allow the use of any track with a game for which it wasn't intended. Not that I myself wouldn't partake of that... I'm merely pointing out that the main thrust of your argument was that it would be LEGAL by the mere fact that Papy was the originator of the track; which of course wouldn't be the case, because they never intended NL's Riverside to be used with ANYTHING other than NL. I don't disagree with your intention, I disagree with your argument. Besides, it's all moot anyway: you can get NL for about $8 (counting $6 for cereal you'd eat anyway!). Got mine while I was on vacation! Gunner
> I don't disagree with your intention, I disagree with your argument. You made an interesting point -- and one beyond my knowledge of Licenses, Don. Yeah, I know that, too. But I hate Cheerios, man! And I hate going to the grocery store, and clipping out UPCs and all that crap. So I'll continue to suffer with one less track because I'm an inertia-laden Cheerios-hater. And YOU'RE certainly not a dimwit. Regards, Kurt

Do you have the "In Car 956" video? It really helped me at the Ring. Plus you get Brands Hatch, Kyalami, Spa (new) and Silverstone (kinda useless). And Le Mans, which is actually my favorite. I've watched it a million times and I'm still amazed at the speed on the Mulsane. -Tony- I'm about NASCAR'ed out for the moment and I still haven't come

Absolutely agree! What backwards, dumb-ass marketing! But the question is, does the demo contain Riverside, so I can get a free copy of that track? Kurt
Dave Henrie 26 Apr 2000 15:19 UTC#275135
I have just one word for you. SUPERBIRDS, DAYTONAs, and Riverside. (sorry I lied) Yes it feels very similar to N3, the setups are somewhat looser, you have to alter your lines slightly to stay off the wall but just the novelty of driving a FREAKIN Quarter Mile Track that makes Bristol look like a SuperSpeedway is amazing....:) If you can find it cheap...bite....better yet, sell your N3 and get the Acceleration pak. The Papy version of Portland Int. Raceway for the trucks is probably Papy's best road course effort to date. dave henrie Andre Warringa wrote:

Andre Warringa <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Oh wait a moment, this is a demo from the same Nascar Legends released > a couple of month ago? O-k... I expected it to be another Nascar > Legends from another era... It's been more than a couple of months. It seems that I've had my copy for at least six months now, which is quite a lag time to be releasing a demo version. I think the original poster means that if you want to increase sales and the general "buzz" about a product at the outset, you should have a demo available well before the game gets bundled into a software collection. Maybe it isn't the case in the Netherlands, but they're already selling bundled versions of N3, NL, and the truck add-on here in the US for a reduced price. As it is I've spent about $90 for N3 and NL and I might shell out more $ for the truck pack. This is kind of self-defeating in a way, since I'm buying more of a product which I'm not as enthused about. So long as I keep doing this, Papy is bound to keep selling NASCAR titles and little else since I and others keep buying them. Good marketing for them, but not really what I want. I'd gladly pay more for a GPL2 or a ICR3. Heck, I'd pay $90 for GPL2 alone right now. Instead I'm seriously considering skipping N4 when it comes out. I'm about NASCAR'ed out for the moment and I still haven't come close to running a decent time at the Ring.

Thanks, poop! Being called a clown by you is a real honor! Since you appear to be a little thick, let me explain the disctinction here ... My statement (which you accurately quoted above, thanks) had to do with Dave Noonan's convertor. I wanted that, and I paid for it. I would also like to have Nascar Legends, simply for the Riverside track. So far, I have "lived without" the track, since I haven't wanted to spend the dollars. However, if Sierra -- the publisher, not some warez f##k -- were to make a free, legal demo available with Riverside included, I would happily AND LEGALLY get the best of both worlds. I see no inconsistency there. Dimwit. Kurt

Yes, Noonan's product has a synergetic effect, although technically it would perhaps not be fully legal. But it enhances any sales that are left for GPL, so Sierra probably won't mind. It's a bit like games such as Quake; those RELY on 3rd party stuff, whether legal or not, well, that's up to the community.
