Just imagine what kind of brakes they need to haul down 5000kg from 160km/h (speeds limited to that prolly because 5000kg at that speed does some damage, they accelerate to 100km/h in less than four seconds (better than any current Ferrari model for the street)) and to 160km/h in about eight. For some video, check out: http://www.daf.nl/homedaf.html (DAF Racing->postcard, then just next, next until you hit the video, the bottom one is the best one). I think this is a pretty cool theme for a game. -- Anssi
i'm german, so allow me to translate (hope I do better than the babelfish :) Note: this is pure marketing bla, i'm only the translator, so don't flame me for that :o) ------ Synetic is developing at the moment what they describe as a "somehow different" racing simulation, where the player can take the role of a Super Race Truck Pilot in one of the teams. Not only the Mercedes Benz Team, but also all the other Racing Teams with authentic sponsorship decals. Not only the race itself, but also the whole racing weekend is accurately represented. There are two race days per weekend, complete with free practice, qualifying (heat races), and the actual championship races. Along the championship you can compete in several other cup races [ editors note: seems to be just like in N.I.C.E. 2 aka Breakneck that you can do your own racing calendar] A multiplayer option is also provided. Typical for the genre, Mercedes Benz Truck Racing also features a replay mode. You won't miss anything in the game, because every track will be presented down to the last detail to you by experienced truck Pilots. Additionally there is lots of technical data about the Trucks to create and save various detailed Setups. For the game itself there will be lots of options. You can, for example, select a highspeed mode, in which the huge trucks will go over the top. ----- cheers, Alex
there is some more on two additonal pages, translated here for your reading pleasure: ----- The designers strive (sp?) for high track accuracy [editors note: I love that topic <g>]. All championship circuits will be modelled, among others: Nurburgring [editors note: a shorter version of the GP track], Barcelona, and A1-Ring. Additionally the designers created three Fun-Tracks using a special Landscape Engine. The graphics shines with a 3D-sky, realistic shadows and trilinear filtering. The version shown was pretty far developed and looked very solid. The Super-Race-Trucks are authentically modelled with over 1500 polys per car. The 3D virtual cockpit uses transparent windshields so that the pilot can be seen inside. Reflective surfaces are further optical gimmicks. Also there will be different weather effects, like fog and rain. Those will not only be visual gimmicks, but affect car handling as well. Up to eleven cars will be on the track at the same time. Daimler Chrysler Driver Ellen Lohr supported the team in developing realistic vehicle dynamics for the Race Trucks. Whoever will apply full brakes just before the corner will realise that the handling differs very much from everyday driving. This will inevitably lead to a few crashes while you are learning the ropes. Those will be spectacular thanks to a visual damage model. The Developers attention to detail can be seen for example if you're driving over sand the cars leave a huge cloud of dust behind, also there are sometimes smoke effects because of overheated brakes. There are optional "random" events, like car failures, red flags or other unexpected surprises. Those will be announced by the flagmen. To capture the mighty Sound of a Truckrace, a 3D sound-system is used that also supports Surround-Sound. ------ phew.... lot's of work :) cheers, Alex
I go to the truck races on the Nurburgring every year, partially because there is also the FIA thouroughbred GP cars championship running the same weekend ;-). The trucks are amazing to watch and the overall atmosphere of the race weekend is very nice. The truck races are usually extremely close because the trucks run with a speed limiter (180 km/h IIRC) and all use the same automatic gearbox. You can walk through the pits and chat with the drivers between the races. Anyway, this game looks like it could be lots of fun. It is developed by Synetic, who did a not-so-good arcade racer called N.I.C.E.2 aka Breakneck before, but for this title they are working together with the truck racing team of Mercedes Benz. The drivers Ellen Lohr and Steve Parrish have allegedly (sp?) contributed a lot to the game. cheers, Alex

Can anyone who either knows German or knows about this game tell me anything about it? It looks great. I've always liked the big trucks. Looks like fun. Thanks Marc

Go here http://babelfish.altavista.com/ and plug in the sites URL http://www.zdnet.de/spiele/vorschau/200002/truckracing/truckracing_00-wf.htm l in the box and choose German to English. It should tell you that the site is frames and give you a choice between 2 URLs, pick the top one or the one that has ....wc.html, if I remember correctly. Pretty amazing, thank you. I wonder if they'll bring it into North America....

This game had stunning graphics (IMO better than NFS3, which came out about the same time in Germany) and a very good graphics engine which did provide high framerates. I guess, you can expect this from MB Truck Racing too. The game was really fun, but it was pure Arcade, though the physics were at least better than NFS3 . MB Truck Racing is developed together with Ellen Lohr, a female driver of trucks and touring cars. They claim to have developed a realistic driving model. but who does not nowadays? I would not expect too much realism ATM (the preview also mentions a 'highspeed-mode') , but for those who like arcade racers it should really be fun. And... the greatest thing about NICE2 was that they provided a track editor, that allowed to create tracks in the same quality as the standard tracks (even if it was a bit late for that). So let's see if we're gonna sing with Janis Joplin: 'Oh Lord, won't you buy me...' CU Zolli

NO, thank God. Never thought I would see the day that Porsche made a damn truck. But then again, OJ was found not guilty, so anything is possible these days... Too bad it's only external shots. These are the kind of scenes you'd see _least_ of when you play the game. I'd like to see some driver views. The workplace. /petern On Fri, 28 Apr 2000 22:07:42 GMT, [email hidden] wrote:

Nope. It's not Hard Truck 2. It's Mercedes Benz Truck Racing. Hard Truck 2, developed by Russian developer 1c (http://www.1c.ru/games/ht2/thegame.asp), should be out in the US in a few weeks, published by Valusoft. Mercedes Benz Truck Racing (http://www.mbtr.de/) is slated for release in August by THQ, but there has been no comment yet about whether the game will be released in the US. If MBTR follows the N.I.C.E.2/Excessive Speed/BreakNeck pattern, it will be released in Germany, then the UK, then the US. Given how much fun it is to drive the big rig in BreakNeck, MBTR out to be a blast. On Thu, 4 May 2000 15:45:03 -0400, "Alex Kihurani" <[email hidden]> wrote:
