gpl wheel needed?

12 posts by 7 people · 30 Apr 2000 - 01 May 2000 18:06 UTC

Do I absolutely need a steering wheel to play even the demo for gpl? As of now I can only play with my keyboard but it doesn't seem to let me do so. HELP!
I have a joystick but everytime I am in the menu it automatically brings me to the calibrating window right away!!! I don't even have time to read what it says on the menu and it automatically sends me to the calibrating window!! HELP!! You can definitely use the keyboard for the demo. It won't let you change the keys though. The keys are the arrows on the numpad along with +/- on the numpad for changing gears.

I seem to remember that there is a patch at www.the-fastlane.com which changes the keys to az,. as per GP2. This is much easier than the default keys. You can use the keyboard by going to the control options screen and choosing them. It is possible to play with the keys but very difficult. I personally use a joystick which works quite well but I would recommend a wheel/pedals combo if you want the best control option for GPL. A joystick is quite adequate Lorenzo. I spent 6 months with GPL using one before I got my wheel. After a year behind the wheel, I'm still chasing many of my old stick lap records. The keys can be used if your brain is split into quarters rather than hemispheres <G> MS "Lorenzo Battistelli" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8eig06$4ehc$[email hidden]... > Do I absolutely need a steering wheel to play even the demo for gpl? Are you selecting the green button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen? This is the OK button for the options screen. After you have callibrated your joystick, select OK. After you have assigned the joystick to the various controls click on the green button which will take you back to the main screen. If you select the red button at the bottom right your changes will not be saved. To quit the game, select the red button at the bottom left hand corner of the main menu screen or press Esc.
