Is the Guillemot Force Feedback wheel any good? There's a special deal here on it and I'm twitching to upgrade from my Thrustmaster GP1. (I *know* it's the wheel and not me that makes me so slow in GPL!) Not sure whether I should wait and get the Logitech. Or another? Advice appreciated. Tony

I looked at many FF. wheels and I finally chose the Guillemot Ferrari FF. wheel . It works great! and it was only $100.00 Flash

You'll start a lively debate with this one, but I think the Guillemot Ferrari wheel is the best I've tried by some way, and I've had a lot of experience of the MS, Logitech, and SC&T ones. Make sure it's the Ferrari wheel , and G'mot's other (older) one that you get - can't remember what is was called. Have got this wheel wotking with SCGT? If yes, how? Thanks Steven

The older one I know very little >about. It's called the Race Leader Force Feedback. Made of cheapo plastic, but works for me. FF for about $80 made it worth it to me. It works thru the serial port and gives rock solid calibration, but will ONLY work with Windows games (or in a Windowed session). Buttons are programmable, but the editor makes my computer lock up. I still think it's worth the money. Gunner

Don, You know, it uses the same drivers and editor as the Ferrari. At least I think it does because the originals I got with the Ferrari wheel said Race Leader on them. Come to think of it, I think my original editor locked up my computer sometimes, too (like I said, I think it did). So maybe the new Ferrari drivers would work with the Race Leader. It's probably the same insides anyway ;-) -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "Don Hancock ("Gunner")" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:YNcW4.3647$[email hidden]... > GTX_SlotCar wrote in message ... > >Guillmot has 2 force feedback wheels. Not add any realism..hmmmm...feel the wheel go light over crests, feel the front wheels slide as you understeer into a wall....but i have to admit, it takes some getting used to. Makes you gradd the wheel better too (as you would have to in the real thing) i only wish i could make the force stronger.....hmmmm...i wonder where that starter for the diesel went......... A few people just don't like FF. But.... 2 things might help. First, give yourself time to get used to it. 2nd, try turning down the Overall Device Gain. If you're not used to it, there's no need to keep it at maximum. Most people find that when they are used to FF, it's hard to go back to driving without it. Give it time. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com

Am I doing % something wrong? Until you find the proper settings for your feel and style you will find that your lap times will increase. Then there will be a new learning curve to get your lap times back down. I have yet to achieve some of the fastest laps I ran pre-FF. But the upside to FF is that my lap times are almost as fast, but extremely more consistent. What really sold me on FF was driving the Ring. Until FF I never understood why I had such a difficult time with this track. It's alot more work to wrestle with the wheel at the Ring with FF, but it's also alot more FUN! I have the gains settings to 100% and the spring centering to 0% for GPL. The following are my core.ini settings... Keep experimenting until you find the right feel for you. You may want to start with settings that don't provide alot of FF and as you adjust go back and increase the feel some more. force_feedback_latency = 0.001000 force_feedback_damping = 150.000000 max_steering_torque = 330.000000 -- **************************** Michael E. Thanks -- those gentler settings helped a lot. Within an hour, I'd improved my time at Kyalami (1:25.91 - yes, I know that's slow!). But whereas before my 1:26's felt fast.. the 1:25's now feel slow -- so I know I can do better. Part of the problem is that FF is hitting my frame-rate quite badly. I've turned off all detail, and it's not too bad now -- except when I get cars in the mirrors, at which point the frame rate suffers and makes it hard to keep the speed up. Why Kyalami? It's the track I know best, having walked it several times. The first major motor race I ever went to was the SAGP in 1968, which of course featured the 1967 cars in GPL. Clark 1st, Hill 2nd. Clark's last F1 race. This was a few days after my 11th birthday, for which I was given an 8mm cine camera. Very sadly, the film I took that day got lost in a house move a couple of years later. The first time I fired up GPL it literally brought tears in my eyes, as one of the replays had *exactly* the same camera angle and action as that long-lost 8mm film (Clark and Hill coming round Leeukop in formation, viewed from the Leeukop grandstand). (I missed 1969, but attended 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973... but more of that another time...) -- Russell Whitworth - If you need my email address, you'll have to visit my website (sorry) - - Home ==> http://www.anchorag.demon.co.uk/ - - Work ==> http://www.questus.co.uk/ -
I easily record faster lap times with ff consistently -- Thanks Kieran Larkin www.PCracing.co.uk for the best racing news Russell Whitworth <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In article <dabX4.7959$[email hidden]>, "Michael E. > Carver"[email hidden] writes > >Until you find the proper settings for your feel and style you will find > >that your lap times will increase.
