Some days ago Andre told us about his trip to the Nuerburgring-Nordschleife and that the track was closed. He was told to look at the Nuerburgring- website for the opening times. Yesterday I wanted to do a ride on the Nordschleife and looked at the website several times. I even called a phone-number where a tape was running, telling the opening times. Both of them stated 12:15 as the opening time. Despite it was the day after the Europen GP and parts of the Nordschleife were used for parking and camping, I arrived at 12:30 at the Nuerburgring. A lot of other fanatics like me from all across Europe were waiting eagerly for the track-opening. Then suddenly a message board told us: opening time 14:00. So we decided to take a trip to the lovely Nuerburg-castle. You guess ? closed on mondays! Back to the track the message board was showing opening time 16:00 BTW, it was raining most of the time. Looking at the Caterhams, Jags 220, Porsche GT3 for 2 hours....in the rain.... 16:00 Message board: 17:00 uahhhhhh!!!! Well at 17:00 they really opened it, and most of us crazy people were still there after waiting for more than 4 hours. The good thing: the track was mostly dry now, except some parts at Pflanzgarten. Did three laps, left with a smile :) Juergen Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

How strange all of the bad luck you guys have when visiting the Nordschleife! I went there with two friends in March this year. We first went to Spa, drove the old circuit, walked a great piece of the new circuit and of course tried Eau Rouge a couple of times :-) Weather was perfect (about the first warm day around here). After that we went to the Nordschleife, watched a Corvette almost crashing two Porsches 911 in the Vedol chicane and after that we went on the track ourselves. It was great, even though our lousy Ford Focus didn't get above 180km/h on the long straight... the BMW that passed us definitely was a LOT faster :-) After driving the track we visited the castle, again, no problems. GREAT view from the tower! Very strange to be standing on top of it, in the middle of great nature, and hearing engines roaring in the distance, tyre squeeking sometimes. Really strange, but cool. It was about the best day this year for us, full of GOOD luck. Yes, it does exist when visiting the Nordschleife.... ;-) --- Joeri J. > Tony asked: > Ok, but can't you give more details? > Like what were you driving.like mad ;-), as fast as I could afford (it was not my car and my sister was with me) that means pedal to the metal where you can see the the track, braking just before the braking skid marks (?), smooth in the corners, but whoopie!!! at the Flugplatz jump and downhill at Pflanzgarten. > How fast were you going?I stopped taking my times, after reading an article on Ben Lovejoys website. But I suppose somewhere between 9:30 and 10:00 > How similar is it to driving GPL?GPL helped a lot in learning the track. So you know what will come after the next blind corner. If you can remember the track in your head, it is a lot more easier to drive and you can concentrate on driving. And you should be careful with all these corners, that you are careful with in GPL. > Were you passing lots of cars?ca. 5, 1 bus, 1 bike > How many cars were passing you?0 :-) > What kind of cars were they?BMW 5, Volvos, Old Opel Ascona, Audis A4, lot of Alfa 164, Mutsibishiususiu(?) Charismas, Subarus, > How fast were they going?? > Were you scared? Not this time, but when I did my first trip to the Ring I was not really scared, but very surprised how steep and fantastic this track is. Maybe my sister was scared then. > How dangerous was it?That is up to you :) I don't go to the track on weekends, because there is to much traffic and to many silly guys driving round the track, and that is dangerous. > How many other cars were on the track at the same time as you?ca. 30 cars, 20 bikes, 1 bus > Exactly where do you start from ( I know somewhere around > Antoniusbuche Bridge)Right, ca. 2/3 of the long straight. > Where do you end at?Where you start. > What happens at the end of a lap? > Do you have to pull off the track, or can you keep going? You have got to slow down, the track is narrowed by the little plastic things that you drive over in NFS-Porsche. You have got to leave the track, get the next lap-ticket, put it in an box, start all over with 30 km/h for some time, under the bridge, slow down to 70 km/h in the corners before Hatzenbach and then you go. But this 30/70 km/h things change. > Do you get a time slip? What's that? > How much does it cost?21 DeutschMark for cars Puuhh! Juergen Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Ok, but can't you give more details? Like what were you driving. How fast were you going? How similar is it to driving GPL? Were you passing lots of cars? How many cars were passing you? What kind of cars were they? How fast were they going? Were you scared? How dangerous was it? How many other cars were on the track at the same time as you? Exactly where do you start from ( I know somewhere around Antoniusbuche Bridge) Where do you end at? What happens at the end of a lap? Do you have to pull off the track, or can you keep going? Do you get a time slip? How much does it cost? You know, stuff like that. Thanks. -Tony- [email hidden] wrote:

Some nice in-car pictures of this trip will be available on http://www.esrac.ele.tue.nl/~tim soon. This weekend I hope to have some time to scan some pictures (including one of the BMW passing us!). I already uploaded a few Spa pictures from this weekend (some older pictures are also available). Greetz, Tim On Thu, 25 May 2000 19:38:20 GMT, "Joeri Cox" <[email hidden]> wrote:
