And why Jean Pierre???? Shoulda killed Scott damnit. What an ending that
woulda been for Jean to make up the 30 seconds and win the the championship.

interviewing John Frankenheimer (the director,) Frankenheimer said
that he didn't realize that the audience would be so sympathetic to
Sarti. He also said that in his haste to edit the movie, he removed
some of the scenes that would have made the audience more sympathetic

said that if he had to do it over again, Sarti would not have died.

I wonder if the footage still exists. Although I imagine there would be
little financial incentive for the producer, I'd love to see a modern
director's cut.

Looking through some old South African GP programmes, I notice that they
list Stewart's country of origin as "Scotland"; whereas these days I
would imagine that Coulthard gets listed as "British".
Was this just an anomaly of the South African programme editors? If
not, when did this practice end?

This movie SCREAMS for a DVD version. Criteron should jump and convince
John to release a Director's cut of the movie, with additionnal race footage

I'm with you! Also, then you could ffwd through the trivial bits, like the

I realised that Jack(ie) came from John. I was under the
impression that he adopted the "Stewart" from somewhere else.
After all "Young" is a pretty unusual middle name.

If you look at some of the articles written about or by the man himself, you
will see his name abbreviated as JYS. His sir name is definately Steward.
Indeed, he had a racing brother (Jimmy) who also shared the name
(Obviously).
Hope this clears things up.

It is fairly common here in Scotland (and perhaps elsewhere) to have a
middle name which refers to a relative's surname i.e. your own mother's
maiden name. This way it allows a longstanding family name to live on when
it would otherwise be lost.

His FULL name is "John Young Stewart". His two given names are "John" and
"Young" and his family name is "Stewart".
The abbreviation or common contraction for John is "Jack" (thus the pet-name
"Jackie").

I think you'll find that "John" doesn't own the rights to it, so it would
not do much good anyone trying to convince him to release it on anything.
(He was working for the studio at the time the movie was made, not for
himself.)
