The detail Bias was set to zero....the hunt goes on...........guess I'll just have to master the arcade mode. Cheers <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8hb92c$kft$[email hidden]...

Your in-car fps sounds like you are running in software but since you get 36 in arcade, that must not be it. You didnt say where you have the detail slider set. Make sure it is below 1/2. That sounds possible....I don't suppose you have any ides how to fix the problem. Also, is there some problems attached to using the 'behind car' view ?? I would eventually like to play online, once I can keep it on the grey stuff Cameron Dave Henrie <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Apologies if this is covering old territory but I'm new to this. I have a lot of problems with frame rate and can't seem to improve it any even by reducing the resolution....in fact the higher the resolution the higher the frame rate ?? I run a 350 processor and a voodoo 2 card but don't seem to get over 12 fps when in car (even with all the details off)...Nintendo view goes up to 36....which is nice. TIA Cameron

12?!? What resolution, and how many AI? If you're running solo, it should be better than that... How much RAM do you have? I have a PII 350 and Voodoo3 and get steady 36 with nearly everything on at 1024. You do have 3dfx selected in graphics options in gpl, right??? Those symptoms...dead slow in car....are like a TNT/Nvidia problem. I'm guessing that your system is using the main vidcard in gpl instead of the V2. dave henrie H Cameron Purdie wrote:

I think they also get offended if you don't keep your pinky extended while sipping your tea, though, too. <g> Biggest problem with racing on-line in chase view is that you lose your mirrors and that's pretty important info if you plan on being a thoughtful, curteous racer against other humans. I've done chase view on-line when I simply could not achieve an acceptable FPS at a particular track (I'm "hardware challenged" at present) and simply took great care to listen for the sound of another car behind me. Considering my rather tepid driving skills at present, I just would hold my line entering a straightaway and accelerate gradually so that they could pass me. If you *are* good and want to dice wheel-to-wheel then chase view with no mirrors is going to be extremely challenging to do well. As far as your problem goes, it sounds a bit odd. You do indeed have 3dfx selected in your graphics options? Be sure and set your mirrors to "cars only" as this hammers the FPS. In fact, I think it's why chase view is so much faster. Less CPU horsepower is required. Also, add a file called Glide.Ini to your GPL directory and add the following: Mirror Frequency=6 The number specifies how many frames between updates to your mirrors and should pep up your FPS when in car. From what I've heard and experienced myself, turning on all the checkboxes only has about a 2 FPS impact, but moving the detail slider off of full left has a far greater impact on FPS. there used to be a bunch of utilities that would assign which vid card to use....I "think" it was called tweak3d but that is pretty hazy. dave henrie H Cameron Purdie wrote:
