G. Huttu is arguably the best of the hotlappers and the best racer. In article <8hgh58$t12$[email hidden]>, "T0NT0" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Ive been thinking about this for a while. I am not good at hot lapping but ok at driving Cause there are tactics envolved. There is no overtaking, in hotlapping and no need for consistency. Although it is a very hard art to master and I respect the people who are good at it. -- Kieran T0NT0 <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8hgh58$t12$[email hidden]... > Ive been thinking about this for a while. The "general" answer is that hotlapper usually to not make good racer, alot of them admit it themselves.... However, while competing in an MGRPRS2 league I found out that they do not infact make the beast racers but many of them can. The difference is that the setups and driving style used for 1 lap must be altered to lap a race distance thus slowing them down to a somewhat "human" level in a race. Many have now found a god balance but you'll still find hotlappers who are hopeless at completing a race.

Ive been thinking about this for a while. I love racing but never been close to the times as hotlappers in almost all racing sims. I always wondered how this guys do in races, 100% length races. These hotlappers crashed 1000's of times on the track before setting the magical time. Usually to set those times they are right on the limit, so one mistake its over, can these guys do it for 50 or whatever amount of laps. What about tires and fuel. They usually kill the tires when they are setting the times. So hotlappers good racers??? ps love to hear what hotlappers have to say....

How do you know they crash 1000's of times ? I expect them to crash very little, they are at the peak of their chosen sim and have invested many thousands of hours in it. Sure they will make the odd mistake, but a mistake by them means going slightly offline where as a mistake for others is putting it in the wall :) I've raced with a lot of the "hotlappers" they are very fast and very consistent in races, they can drive consistently at around 95% of their best times and still be faster than us mere mortals who are trying 110% just to keep them in sight, it's then us who spin and become inconsistent because we're pushing way too hard ;) -- Ian P === T0NT0 <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8hgh58$t12$[email hidden]... > Ive been thinking about this for a while. I'm always ashamed when I see the hotlap times, I still hope a lot of the difference is in the fact that I don't like messing around with the setup too much. Once I've found a comfortable setup with enables me to race the AI, I'm satisfied. I know there's nothing like a magical setup but there really is a lot of time in the setup. With a default setup I drive a a high 28/low 29, with a setup from GRE a low 27 at Monza. The difference is even bigger at twistier tracks. I hadn't played GPL for a while and had a racing meeting last Saturday. Without much practise I drove a 20.5 at Kyalami, I know it's not a very quick time but considering I hadn't driven for about three months it was quite good. All because of the fact that I used a GRE setup. One last example I remember having a league race at Monaco. The entire week in the build up to the race I had been quite far of the pace (in comparison to Tim Wheatley). Then I decided on using Tims setup and I chopped 3 secs of my time within three laps. The biggest difference was in the gearing. One thing I don't like about hotlappers is when they use strange driving techniques. In GPL you see a lot of hotlappers downshifting till their clipping point and then quickly up to a high gear in order to get the power down. In a real racing car that's just not possible. Hotlappers compete against the game and search for weaknesses in the physics engine, I believe. "T0NT0" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8hgh58$t12$[email hidden]...

I blame the internet Harjan! Back when you were just a mere boy - before I had access to the 'net - I won the F1GP championship at the hardest level. The result was to be informed what a great driver I was - the RAS veterans will know what I am on about. At that point I was blissfully of the view I was pretty darn good at F1GP. I moved on (ICR) and later got internet access. To my dismay I found all these utilities to make F1GP more realistic because it was too easy for the quick drivers. Then I found a hotlaps page and my jaw hit the desk! I listed at the top of a hotlap page days for Brazil after GP3 came out. A few days later after the quick drivers got up to speed 3 seconds were ripped off my time - I never improved ;-( After that experience I accepted the fact there were much quicker sim racers than me. That didn't stop me revisiting GPL every now & then trying some radical (unrealistic) settings in the vain hope I would find some magic setting to launch me up closer to the quick guys. I felt ashamed each time as if I was trying to cheat the software to counter my inability to run at hotlap speeds. Maybe when I get GP3 I should snip my phone wire :-) Tony "Harjan Brand" > One thing I don't like about hotlappers is when they use strange driving > techniques. I personally find hotlapping of great benefit. It really does show you the limits of what is possible at each track. And once I've found new limits then I can transfer that over to consistent racing as well. As an example, I used to be able to drive with a stable setup at Kyalami regular 1:20.5 to 1:20.9 when racing and at a stretch could hit the low 1:20s when really pushing. With my hotlap setup I can do low 1:19s and although to go consistently with this setup I have to drop down to the very high 1:19s and maybe the odd 1:20 it is still way better than even when pushing with my old consistent setup. Also I know that, if needed, I've always got that extra few 10ths there if I want to go for it. All that hotlapping has ever done for me is to show me that I can go quicker and I don't have a problem with that. -- Peter Ives - (AKA Ivington) No person's opinions can be said to be more correct than another's, because each is the sole judge of his or her own experience.

Damn it, another one slips through the watchful eye of Outlook Spell-Checker:-)
