New GPL Lotus dashboard mod causes track load errors

Ken Drouillard released a new Lotus dashboard for GPL, which was widely admired but caused a 'can't load track' error for many users. Testing showed the replacement 3do worked but the dash texture failed, and Grant Reeve explained that GPL never expects textures larger than 256x256, which the 512x256 file exceeded. A resized 256x128 version was reported to work.

I just ran GPL with the first time with the new dash and it looks fantastic. Excellent work guys! That is the nicest looking dash I've seen on any car yet. Quick question for you... The GPLEA are due to release their Lotus sometime soon. Will your dash be compatible? Thanks for the good work! ...Colin "ken drouillard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8hm5pl$quo$[email hidden]... > our first effort, give it a look at http://129.100.29.86/gpl > feedback is more than welcome. > > >

I get the not loading tracks error, too. Original dash works fine. Someone else's modified dash, steering wheel, etc. works fine. Yours will not work as an add-on to the original or to the other modifications. Same error every time. Hope you can fix it because it looks great in the picture! Marc. As for the problem with the 'can't load track' it's caused by files that the car .3do file is looking for and can't find. Well that's the problem i've had going through combonation after combination of separate peoples work. Phil Lee's message stated that he deleted all the previous files, you really should have noted if the names of the files before hand in case of variations.

Not in this case, to prove it to yourself merely extract the newly provided Lotus.3do file yet omit the new dash7.mip file. GPL works as expected. Now do the reverse, no such joy. - George

HI all, The 3do file is provided only to render the slimmer needles on the gauges, no other mods were applied. The dash7.mip file should be usable without the 3do, just replace the default. HTH "George M. Smiley" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:JcB%4.2637$[email hidden]...

Bad guess...resolution makes no difference. Switched to software renderer and instead of can't load track error, just got booted to desktop. The 3do works fine...gives the narrower needles, but the mip sure has a strange problem! Marc. yes very strange.....thanks all for the testing though......working on a new Lotus dash now (based on some feedback) as well as beginning the Eagle....see if that makes a difference. to be honest I have no idea......I use this with stock .dat files (not sure of they changed through 1.2.0.1) and with every revision I load GPL after MIP conversion....I have had errors in development but I had removed too many files, etc......I have a slightly modified 3d0 from what we offered......but it still works fine when I replace my entire lotus directory with the contents of the zip file (with lotus.dat in place of course). it has been downloaded 140 odd times so far and I think the # of problems is below 10 (?) that I have heard of. My testing system is as follows: PIII-533B 128MB RAM Diamond Viper 770 using reference drivers under Win2K and Win98. U.S. Version of GPL patched to 1.2.0.1 with disco patch. In game I use OpenGL patch beta 2 at 1024*768, detail slider 1/2 way, mirrors every 2 frames...... HTH "Bruce Kennewell" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:393ec216$[email hidden]...

Bad guess...resolution makes no difference. Switched to software renderer and instead of can't load track error, just got booted to desktop. The 3do works fine...gives the narrower needles, but the mip sure has a strange problem! Marc. > Good guess...I use 1024x768 and I'll bet that higher resolutions may cause a

Did you read the solution posted under another thread? That person converted the size of the image from 512x256 to 512x128 and it worked for him. Andre On Thu, 8 Jun 2000 07:40:52 -0400, "Ken Drouillard" <[email hidden]> wrote:

I loaded Andrew Olley's cockpit files yesterday and had the same problem. I gave up trying to reverse out of the problem and re-installed from the CD. The cockpit files now load fine... Ah! Even I make mistakes sometimes, it was 256x128. Andre On Fri, 9 Jun 2000 06:52:42 +0200, "Matthew B.Knutsen" <[email hidden]> wrote:
