World Sports Cars screenshot reactions

Posters reacted to a World Sports Cars screenshot of two cars at Brands Hatch, with Scott Husted noting it was old and lacked anti-aliasing. Karl Zosel called it hype and claimed to be downloading a demo, but later admitted it was the F1WGP demo. Much of the thread drifted into Amiga nostalgia and jokes about missing driver heads.

These are fairly old screenshots. Notice the pixelation around the drivers side window and side mirror. Not to mention the trees in the background not setting in properly <G> Don't worry, this is NOT the case with WSC now ;) -- Scott B. HEY!!!!!!! Don't be dissin the Amiga. Them's fightin' words cowboy! ;-) Every time someone mentions the Amiga, I get a little tear in the corner of my eye. It was such an amazing machine in the 80s and early 90s and was light years ahead of anything that any Mac or IBM clone could do. If only Commodore hadn't sucked... You know something funny -- the Amiga used a different processor for each type of task in the machine. One for graphics, one for sound, etc. and they were all separate from the CPU. All these years later, where is the PC world now? Using separate chips for each task -- graphics, sound, etc. Man, the Amiga was soooo incredible.... WHOA!! Wait just a moment here. What exactly is wrong with an Amiga? Heck, it took a Pentium 66 with lots of extra sound and video cards to even come close to matching my '90 Amiga 2000! ;)

The rights to the Amiga were purchased by Gateway. Supposedly they are coming out with an "Amiga" that runs on Linux. Euh Doesn't it look just like a racing game? Whats so fucking awsome? Le Mans 24Hrs looked just as good, and THAT was a mighty bad game (totally worthless). Are all you guys working on WSC or what? Just another hype.... Will it be fun to play.... THATS what matters. I think the graphics of TOCA2, SCGT, F12000 and so are already close to perfect. I would love to see a SIM thats accurate (not with shitty tracks like F12000 - big shame on you EA), and feels good to play. BTW: does anyone know why the track-graphics in GPL (the best sim) look not half as good as TOCA 2 or SCGT or EA SUPERBIKE? The only real flaw with GPL is that they got the perspective from the drivers view all wrong. All the distances look twice as long as they are in real life. The car-physics feel alright though... Just after Christmas my son bought an Amiga 500, complete with that stereo-sound monitor, external HDD, over 60 games and applications, for AUS$50-00. The Amiga sims (I remember them well!) run and look far better on the Amiga than the equivalent PC game does on the PC. For example, the original Amiga GP1 looks great.....so does Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. But the PC version, with 16 colour VGA, is woeful! Yep, the Amiga could certainly have been THE gaming platform....if only. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Todd Walker <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > HEY!!!!!!! Sadly you said "brand", Jo, which indicates that it'll be the name only and not the same type of technical approach that Commodore took back then. -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- Jo Helsen <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Thu, 08 Jun 2000 13:26:26 GMT, [email hidden] (Todd Walker) > wrote: > > >HEY!!!!!!! Since u are so cynical: tell me WHY you find those screenshots so amasing ??????
Jan Verschueren 09 Jun 2000 19:51 UTC#264093
I don't give a rat's behind about how a game looks (my bank manager has a different idea... he likes low system reqs). What I do care about is the developers, in answer to a direct question from a known "serious" simracer, have gone on record as wanting to better or at least equal the physics modelling found in GPL. I suggest you have a look at the featurelist posted elsewhere on this forum and the log from the online chat where they made that statement (Simracing Insider, was it?). If anything, the graphic level they're already acchieving worries me... processor cycles which could be put to better use elsewhere if you catch my drift. These people are trying to make a game for us, simracing enthousiasts, in a marketplace which doesn't really believe in such an endeavour anymore. We cannot support them financially yet (can't buy the game), so the least we can do is morally support them. I trust the West brothers and I trust the people who have commented about the game here. Jan. =--- PS.: including Tim, that's 3 simracers on Pandora already.... The people at TvD have good conn's too. Couple more and we can have some proper online simracing (sub 30ms pings ;-)) Karl Zosel wrote... > Since u are so cynical: tell me WHY you find those screenshots so amasing > ??????

I take it you mean you're willing to try the demo and do some surfing on the subject of WSC tonight as, to my knowledge, there's no demo yet (can't wait tho' ;-)). There might be some E3 gameplay footage floating about, but I can't find it anymore, sorry.
