GP3 official system requirements
Posters discussed GP3's published specifications: a Pentium II 233 minimum, a Pentium III and 128MB recommended, and multiplayer via IPX, TCP/IP, serial, modem or hotseat. Several distrusted the minimum spec after their GPL experience, asked whether it used hardware T&L, and doubted the TCP/IP support would allow true internet racing. Others gave advice on upgrading P2 boards to P3 CPUs.
Automated summary.

I surpass all of that easily, but does GP3 use T&L at all? Kind of a
shame if it doesn't because T&L capable cards have been around for
quite a while now and it would give us with one a nice frame rate
increase if done right.

Ack, racing sims could really benefit of T&L...lots of polygons when
racing a full field.

I upped mine to 256Mb some tme ago, and quite frankly I see very little
difference. I believe it is to do with the way W98 manages memory. W ME is
supposedly much better.

Yes, I know, but it depends on the game and the fact is I had to buy
new ram to replace a bad stick because I couldn't wait for the
replacemnt to arrive. The ram I am getting on Monday is the replacent
ram. It's either use it or sell it. Think I'll use it.

I the light of this - perhaps I can ask for some advice..
I currently have a P2-350, with 64 Mb and a Voodoo3 2000
on a 440BX motherboard.
I can easily bring the RAM up to spec, but I don't know
about the processors.
Can I simply replace a P2 with a P3, or does the motherboard
need to be upgraded also? (i.e will a P3 operate on a slot 1
motherboard running at 100Mhz?)
Putting this another way - is it economic to upgrade a P2?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Make sure your mobo can supply th ecorrect voltage to the CPU, or it will
be fried. To be sure, get an FCPGA chip (socket) and a socket->slot convertor
with build in voltage regulator. That should work. (a friend of mine did this to
a rev 1.02 Asus P2B, almost 2 years old that mobo).

Another fellow claimed GP3 was going to be shipped witha cripple

take a private effort with a program similar to VROC would enable
multi-player...Don't get to excited yet....wait til somebody gets a full
