What does the F12k 1.09 patch do???

34 posts by 11 people · 28 Jun 2000 - 02 Jul 2000 21:35 UTC

What the F1 2000 1.09 patch changed

Posters linked to the changelog for F1 2000's 1.09 patch and discovered that it 'fixed' force-feedback crashes by removing the collision effect altogether. Greg Cisko and Iain Mackenzie called this a sloppy fix, and some said they would stay on 1.06. The thread digressed into Greg's Achilles injury and Falcon 4's bubble-size hack.

Maybe they mean crash in a program sense. Seems the most likely scenario! Iain Greg Cisko <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:viJ65.11932$[email hidden]...

Has anyone tried the patch yet to see what the deal is? I won't be able to drive (on the computer or in real life) for probably another month or two :-( -- [email hidden]

Greg, Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Do everything your doctor and physio recommend, as the Achilles is a nasty one if it doesn't heal properly. The forces which go through many of the tendons of the leg are astounding... cheers Stephen

Ouch, Greg, that hurts! My uncle had that and it wasn't pretty. He said was playing tennis and suddenly he heard a snap much like a gunshot, and then his foot just wouldn't come off the ground. Sends shivers down my spine just imagining it! I wish you a really fast recovery! The doctor ordered only fast jet sims for you, no rudder pedals :). Or a Logitech Wingman 3D or something like that, or Thrustmater GP1 wheel (or Nascar Sprint) with paddles for brake and gas. Seriously, get well soon! -Gregor

Well I was playing volley ball. After we were done, I was sitting down thinking boy this kind of hurts over here. 10 days later everything seemed fine and I was in my garage chasing after a run away garage door. The first hard pushoff I did on my right foot did it. Right where it was hurting 10 days earlier. No snap or anything like that. But I knew what happened because I was sort of worried about it :-) > I wish you a really fast recovery! The doctor ordered only fast jet sims > for you, no rudder pedals :). I've only driven one race since 1.09, but there was no massive pile up in the first turn at Albert Park so either the patch has greatly improved the AI or I got lucky. -- Nos

Just tried it and yep, the FF effect on collision has been removed. Obviously a sloppy way to 'fix' the problem that some people were having. Iain

Exactly... Glad to hear about this, I am sticking with 1.06. My opinion of the F1 2000 programers just went into the toilet. This is almost worse than what the falcon4 programers did to "optomize" framerate. They reduced the bubble size to 1. This has been reversed as of late, that the F4 team kind of sucked to come up with that "optomization". Sheesh no wonder the PC game hobby is crapping out. -- > Iain > > > I never bet for money - unless I'm guaranteed to win! > > Well one person in another post seemed to confirm my > > suspecions. yeah but 106 also did not create the pile up anycase F1 2000 now as it is things are looking good

Well that may not be realistic :-) Many races have tangles at the first turn... Do you have a FF wheel??? If so what about the crash FF effect with the new patch? -- [email hidden]

Was (is) it not possible to adjust the bubble size in F4? I thought it was. Iain > > Just tried it and yep, the FF effect on collision has been removed. > > Obviously a sloppy way to 'fix' the problem that some people were having.

On Sat, 1 Jul 2000 14:21:12 +0800, "* Leong" I still got pile ups with 1.06. Need to test some more to see if there is a dif in this area between .06 and .09. -- Nos

On Sun, 2 Jul 2000 06:47:52 +0100, "Iain Mackenzie" With 1.08us it makes no dif adjusting the slider. There is a 3rd party hack now that fixes it though and does allow for adjustment. -- Nos
You can change it manually. Go to your ....falcon4\campaign\save directory and edit the file falcon4.aii. Look for simbubbledata, the default value is 350000 IIRC. Lowering this value will decrease the bubble size (mine's set to 150000 at the moment).

It was not possible until the legendary assembly hex hacker Sylvan found it and fixed it. This was way before the code for the game was illegally leaked to the net. Until then you could certainly slide the bubble slider, but it changed nothing at all. That is why your wingies missed their bomb attempts most times. Then there is a secondary bubble stuff :-) -- [email hidden]
