Well, it seems to be my day for display problems.
No sooner do I get my GPL video issue solved, that NFSPU
(freshly installed) is unplayable due to video issues.
Specifically, when I enter Race mode, the graphics are useless.
The Cote d'Azure track is all pink where the buildings and
terrain should be, with only the water in the distance rendered
correctly.
When I try the Normandie track, same problem, except that
everything's orange instead of pink. It's so bad that I really
can't even see my car - just the brake lights. And yes, I plan
to use the in-car view, just as soon as I get something
meaningful on screen!
I checked the EA and NFS sites, and found no mention of my
problem - thanks in advance if anybody has any information.
I've already tried multiple resolutions/color depths with no
luck. The card is a Guillemot Geforce SDR, running the Nvidia
5.22 drivers.

Check your Display Properties - in the D3D section you will find a check for
"fog table emulation"...I forget if on or off is correct for NFS PU but it
is the opposite of whatever you have it set to.
Change it and your problem should go away.

I actually figured this out on my own before I got your answer -
started thinking about it and realized that it looked like
everything was "fogged out", and vaguely remembered seeing fog
buried somewhere in the Nvidia control panels.
