Banked Monza track for GPL in progress
Rumours spread that a banked Monza was being built for GPL, which Martijn Keizer first dismissed. Andre Warringa then quoted a creator named Chris on the GPLEA forum confirming he was working on it, with completion months away, and Jon Van Ginneken showed his own work-in-progress layout. Posters also mentioned Solitude and rumoured Goodwood and Suzuka conversions.
Automated summary.
Thanks for the reality check.
Actually on the GPLEA forum someone named Chris is claiming to be working on
the track right now.
Whether or not the project will be completed remains to be seen, but someone
is definitely giving it a go!

now A BANKED MONZA!!!! Wow.
Sheesh I have no clue about that one.
But i cant get into GPLEA site. :-( i want to make sure this is true.

As far as I know (pretty far) no-one is even considering making banked

Just read this on the GPLEA forum:

Thanks, but I already had that one...and yes I am, so I guess it's
official now. I wanted to wait until I was a ways along before I made
anything public. I'll post a url showing my work in a few days. Final
completion is still months away as I don't know the track.3do well
enough yet to build tracks. However, the .trk is about 75% done.
Go Chris! Go Chris! Go Chris!

And don't forget Solitude, I think that track will be fantastic.
A couple of months ago there were some rumors about Suzuka being made
for GPL. Any news about this?

That's a trk I last did editing on 2 weeks ago (it's not the track Joe from
GPLEA was talking about).
The track needs to have the banking added in T3-T4 along with 1 more
elevation line around the entire track so that banking can be done in T4.
I'm certain that it's a bit inaccurate in terms of layout of the racing
line, but it's difficult to connect 2 tracks together to make 1 then to make
things a little worse I'm sure Papy wasn't 100% (maybe 99.99999% :-)
accurate w/ their Monza which will amplify some errors a bit...I can't do
the 3do though so it's really just kinda of pet project to say I did it,
that's just a pic of the trk I've done using the GPLReplayAnalyzer24...I'm
interested to see what GPLEA comes up with, should be nice!
I can tell you that if the trk is done correctly it will work in any Sierra
sim (if converted to certain sim's format), I did 2 different crossover
tracks in ICR2 just after reading High Gear's interview with Kaemmer, b4
reading that article it was my impression that they would not work, but they
both worked...like some of the GPLEA guys have said on their board b4,
there'll probably be some problems seeing the crossover but that's no biggie
when you're talkin about the 10k Monza online in both GPL, N3, and hopefully
N4!

Are you sure? I read they had blueprints for all tracks except for 1
(don't know which one they missed) so it should be quite accurate.
Then again, I once saw a satelite picture from Spa merged with the GPL
track. Very close, but they were just a tad different at some
places... Well, maybe Spa was the track of which they didn't have the
blueprint.

Chris, the guy who is working on the banked Monza, is not related to
the GPLEA team. He just posts on the GPLEA forum.
I don't know if you guys should stick together to help eachother to
realize the banked Monza, perhaps you could post a message on the
GPLEA forum to Chris, offering the data you allready collected?
He needs some detailed info about the banking height and radius...
Andre (trying to help Chris getting this banked Monza done asap :)
"Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message
news:[email hidden]...
I did say 99.999999999% accurate. Never will a track be perfect, and never
will a blueprint. I know one track in my area has a length of about 1.95
miles, but if you go by an engineering company's survey it's 1.65 miles
(someone's wrong and I feel it's the survey because plenty of racers report
it to be 1.95, you'ld figure they'd notice a discrepincy on the odometer and
fuel consumption rate if it were 1.65). Look at how bad Papy did some of
the ICR2/N3 road courses...and many of those currently exist. Something
always gonna be a tad different...I think with the oval it really doesn't
matter though, if the radius is off by a meter or 2, or if the banking's
gradient is off by a few percent because no matter what when u have turns
with 38.66degrees of banking and 320m turns it's gonna be flat out and it's
gonna feel like your really on the Monza banks!
Well the old Spa is on streets right? Those can change over the years....so
I don't know is satelite imagery is the best comparison to what they did...

Joe (GPLEA) implied it's a possibility that they'll work on it, I assume
from his (GPLEA) tag he's part of the website.

Don't really know if I can help him outside of 3 years of experience w/ Papy
trk's...but is Chris going to be able to put a 3do together? From what I
know only Dave and the GPLEA guys can.

Yes, Joe is from GPLEA, but the track is being made by Chris, who is
not a GPLEA member. Afaik Joe has nothing to do with the banked Monza.
I forwared your email adres to Chris, I hope he contacts you.
