Congrats!!!
Here's something you might want to try... I downloaded the RingTrainer
program and on my first flying lap I knocked 20 seconds of my PB! Down to
8:54 in the Lotus (with a really, really dumb-ass spin included !!##$$##@!!)
Cheers,

First, off thanks to Uwe for such a great website. Man, has it been fun
working on those GPL personal bests.
I had previously managed to get my handicap down by exactly five seconds
without attacking the Ring:
Monaco - 1.59 seconds just by persevering, using Alison's X-files Lotus
setup (from 1:33.53 to 1:31.94)
Spa - 3.05 seconds thanks to Greger Huttu's Eagle setup and watching his
replay (from 3:26.63 to 3:23.58)
Silverstone - 0.36 seconds by again using Greger's Lotus setup/replay
(from 1:31.02 to 1:30.66). The new Silverstone time enabled me to beat
my third Papy Benchmark, joining my efforts at Monza and Watkins Glen.
It was now time to work on the Ring this weekend. My personal best at
the Ring was 9:01.95 in a Ferrari (using Alison's setup). I decided to
attempt getting under 9:00 in a rather unorthodox fashion. I first
wanted to improve some of my poor times in the other chassis. My goal
was to at least get these to relative respectability while
simultaneously really learning the track. So my plan was to drive three
flying laps at the Ring in all the chassis.
First up on Friday night was the Cooper (using Alison's setup). This
one was a joy to drive, relatively easy to keep on the track. My
previous best was around 9:39. On the third lap, more or less clean,
I dropped that to 9:08.78. A promising start.
Next up was the Eagle. My previous best was around the same as the
Cooper - 9:40.xx, I think. I had more trouble with this one, never
getting a clean lap, and only managed a pathetic 9:18.02.
On Saturday afternoon, I switched to the Honda, having previously
clocked in at around 9:35.xx. I also had problems on all three of my
laps and only brought it down to 9:15.83.
On to the Brabham. Previous best was 9:24.xx. I never feel like I am
going fast in this car because of its gear range, but I was surprised
when I brought it home at 9:01.88. This was a new overall personal
best, improving my Ferrari time by an eyelash - 0:00.07.
I didn't get any more seat time until late Sunday night and I was
determined to break 9:00 before the end of the weekend, so I went right
to the Ferrari. The BRM and the Lotus would have to wait until later.
My out lap was horrific, more spins than I had managed all weekend. My
first flying lap wasn't much better. I took it fairly easy on the
second flying lap, still had one brief spin on the run up to the
Carousel, and was flabbergasted to see my pitboard read 8:57.95 as I
exited the hairpin! I wiped out early on lap three and called it a
night, stoked at having accomplished my goal. Yahoo!

I haven't had possibility to race online, so the Rank has been really fun
for me too!
But this is going to change. I will be able to do online racing soon.
What you are writing is very much the same, that I have been doing for 3
weeks or so.
Lapping some 1-2 hours per evening on different circuits.
At that time I have been able to bring my handicap from 180+ something to
what it is today (22.95).
(Well. To get the ranking I just needed times on all the tracks and I havent
really tried them all
before).
Still I cannot understand Spa. I'm totally stuck on 3:23xx and I should get
3 secs of to match the Papy benchmark.
I feel like I know the track and try hard as hell, but thats the best I can
do.
BTW.
I Just made 08:37.57 at the Ring!
still over 15 secs behind Papy time...
There are just so many turns what you can get wrong and loose lots of time.
You just have to do it again, again, again (the 'Teletubbies' mantra) and each
time
try to go faster.
Cheking out for today.
(waiting for the ISDN ...)

Congratulations! That made a great read btw. :)
I'm still bashing away with the default setups but I reckon I can just about
get under 9:00 in the cooper/coventry if I cut out the mistakes. My current
best is 9:20, but I've only been driving the ring for a week, and that
included about 15 seconds worth of spins. I can't compete with your other
times though.
Although I got GPL the day it was released, I've only been driving the easy
tracks for 95% of that time. I've really been missing out, some of the
harder circuit are just fantastic.

Woah!!! U got that right. Monza, SPa, them tracks are boooring. You haven't
experienced GPL til you've ran a personal best at tracks like the Ring, and

When I 'joined' GPLRank, my hcp. was 137-something. I've since gotten down to
70.45 (or whatever my .sig file says<g>). All but about .16 of that was at the
Ring. I made up the other .16 at Silverstone. I can't BUDGE any of my other
PB's...
Once I get down to about 8:30 at the Ring(I'm guessing that's about my limit),
I'll be stuck with no other hope of advancing. The other 30 seconds I think I
can gain will put me at about +40. That's still almost 2 MINUTES off
records...(!)

Then it's about time you started using replay analyser. I have found
this an excellent tool in figuring out where I am losing time the most
compared to my current PB.
What I do is run a few laps and, if I fail to improve I then record one
or two of the best laps that I just did and then compare them in replay
anal with my current PB lap to see where it is that I am not doing as
well as I could be. Then, whilst fresh in my mind I go back to the
track and go for it again. This helps me to know which parts of the
track that I don't need to push any harder on so that I can concentrate
extra hard on those parts that I know I am losing out.
Saves a lot of wasted effort pushing extra hard on sections of the
circuit that you were doing fine on anyway. Give it a go my son! :)

Try tools menu ->graph and then select Time and click on the time
difference box and then move your mouse over the graph. It will
highlight the part of the track (on the little map) to show you the part
of the track that the mouse pointer relates to. You can then see
exactly where you are gaining/losing the most time. :)
