ACT-LABS rarely supported

This is dissapointing. I bought that Force RS wheel because of the great reviews it got here, but I wish someone had told me it didn;t work for shit with SCGT and NFS5. The only game I own that works well is Rally masters... Is ACTLABS technology not compatible with the rest of the games ? I force, or whatever they call it ? My Force RS works fine for me in both of those and every other title I own. Maybe yours is faulty? Some games have better FF than others, though. GPL and Viper Racing are the best, IMO. Have you tried either of those?

Act Labs technology is compatible with all windows based games as far as I know. ;-) I am not just griping and will gladly elaborate. I had a saitek R4FF. With that wheel (using MS FF engine), I could get a nice heavy feeling while driving SCGT and NFS5. The steering felt heavy and real, all FF effect worked. With the ACTLABS wheel, SCGT has lost all "that" save for the odd kerb twitch. The wheel feels super light, almost like no FF exists (but FF works since I get the other effects). When probed, ACTLABS tech support themselves admitted the wheel did not work well with that game, SCGT hadn't been designed with I-force in mind, and yeah, the weight feel of the wheel was gone...sorry and all that... With NFS5, which I just retried yesterday, same story. FF effects are here, but the "grip" feel is completely gone, the cars feel too light.. I guess that my gripe is that there is virtually no "centering spring" or "turning resistance" anymore, whatever you want to call it... I should point out that yes, I have set FF to max on the Force RS control panel, and in the case of SCGT and NFS 5, FF is enabled and tweaked just like it was before. ACTLABS as much as admitted it was crap with SCGT, so it is my turn to be amazed it work for you. Maybe - and I mean no disrespect - you never experienced the great feel I had with my saitek, so you don't know it's gone 'cause your wheel never did it? ;-) Dunno... Any suggestions appreciated ! ACT Labs technology is based upon the I-Force hardware, which is used by a few other FF manufacturers as well. The Force RS also does not need specific game support as it is a DirectInput device and its drivers work with any FF game which properly works with DirectInput. So it should work fine with all games unless there is something unusual about the way the game codes its FF, or if it bypasses DirectInput for specific devices. The only really proprietary thing here is the ACT Labs Shifter, which is gaining support, but doesn't work out of the box with older software. If you're just griping I suppose no more info is needed, but if you're looking for help maybe you could elaborate on "didn't work for shit on SCGT and NFS5". Act Labs technology is compatible with all windows based games as far as I know. i-Force technology is compatible with everything that uses, well, i-Force technology. The Force RS uses i-Force technology. -- Slot www.slottweak.com Tweaks & Reviews <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8kitnq$9ne$[email hidden]... > This is dissapointing. What I do in the case of games that don't have an adequate spring rate is to set the "Always On" check box and set it where I want it. I've found that if there *is* FF support in the game it works WITH that spring rate, basically overriding the spring rate of the game. Since the Act Labs wheel has a very strong motor I can tune the spring rates as desired and still get the FF effects in the game. This has worked with F1WGP, for instance, where the FF resistance, even at max, is weak. You might try that. Randy <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8klj54$8l6$[email hidden]...

I'm not really surprised that there aren't heavy FF effects in SCGT with the Force RS. I can feel some wheel loading and other road feel with the Ferrari wheel and the modified Force RS, for example, but almost none with the LWFF. So although I haven't tried the Saitek wheel with this game, I know how you feel. Still, there is some road feel and I guess it's whatever you're used to. It's stronger with the Ferrari and modified Force RS, so it almost feels none existent with the LWFF to me. If I didn't compare it with the other wheels, I'd probably be okay with what I felt with the Logitech. It's not strong, but I definitely feel wheel loading in the corners. As far as NFS:PU, I'm really surprised. I feel strong FF in this game with all the wheels. Wheel loading is excellent to the point where I turn it down to 50% to help get rid of the 'hump' feeling caused by Spring Force programming. I wonder if you have a faulty cartridge on your RS? -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8klj54$8l6$[email hidden]...
