Hey - I've actually *beat* a couple of those:Kyalami, Zandvoort, Spa. But that's it... Interesting, but a bit up-and-down in terms of difficulty, I'd say. AS far as I can see, it's *far* easier to do a sub-1:30 at Monza (especially on GPLRank, which allows "slipstreamy" race laps) than it is to do a sub-1:28 at Monaco. (FYI, I'm below those "benchmarks" only at the Glen, Monza, Mexico and Spa.) -- David. (GPLRank handicap: +19.68) "After all, a mere thousand yards - such a harmless little knoll, really." Hey Ken , I see that handicap of yours has dropped to 95.5 . Do me a favour and take it easy for a while . Put your feet up , take a holiday or take up golf . Having put some work in to pass you , I don't want you coming back and overtaking me again :-) Funnily enough , I was thinking the other night that it would be good to have a list of people who've posted sub 9's at the Ring . It would give the members some sense of pride and those outside something extra to aim for . Possible Uwe? Andrew Ken MacKay <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hmm, thinking about that, I suggest a "milestone"-list which can only be encountered if you sub those milestones on all original tracks. However, these laptimes have to be discussed then. Here are my suggestions: KY - 1:21 MC - 1:28 ZV - 1:26 SP - 3:20 RO - 1:58 SS - 1:28 NR - 8:30 MS - 1:22 MZ - 1:30 WG - 1:06 MX - 1:53 Of course, I'm currently _not_ below these times on all tracks ;)). Let's see other suggestions... Regards Crash

I think the point of the milestones is to give drivers an easier goal that the Papyrus benchmark. I think your times are a little too close to the benchmark. What about these times... They are deliberately set as first goals for beginners. KY - 1:25 MC - 1:30 ZV - 1:30 SP - 3:25 RO - 2:00 SS - 1:30 NR - 9:00 MS - 1:25 MZ - 1:30 WG - 1:07 MX - 1:55 These times are easier than the Papy benchmark and should be eventually attainable by most. More suggestions anyone? ...Colin

With all the "sub 9:00 at the Ring" posts lately, would anyone be interested in sub 9:00 list at GPLRank? I don't mean a list containing everyone with a sub 9 (as one could simply look at the track times) but rather a list of those who have recently posted a sub 9, say the last 25 people to do so. And perhaps similar lists could be produced for the other track benchmarks (say sub 1:30 at Monza, sub 1:07 at the Glen, etc.). For me anyway, it feels great to hit one of these milestone's. If there's enough interest maybe Uwe could include this in GPLRank the next time he gets bored. Not that I'm tired of all the "sub 9:00 at the Ring" posts; I hope to be posting my own some day soon. :) Ken MacKay Halifax, Canada GPL Handicap +95.55

It'll be hard to set benchmarks to make everyone happy. In some cases the Papy times are reasonable for a beginner, but some seem impossible. Perhaps it would be good to have two sets of benchmarks, one geared towards beginners, and one for the faster people. Another way of setting the times is to take the time of the person at a certain percentage of the rank for each track For example using 60%: KY - 909 records x 0.6 = position 545 -> 1:22.78 MC - 896 records x 0.6 = position 537 -> 1:32.17 ZV - 894 records x 0.6 = position 536 -> 1:28.83 SP - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 3:24.27 RO - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 2:02.52 SS - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 1:31.00 NR - 854 records x 0.6 = position 512 ->8:57.96 MS - 878 records x 0.6 = position 527 -> 1:25.58 MZ - 929 records x 0.6 = position 557 -> 1:29.54 WG - 915 records x 0.6 = position 549 -> 1:06.74 MX - 858 records x 0.6 = position 515 -> 1:53.93 Its interesting that these times come close to what Colin suggested and it may be easier to round off to even seconds (e.g. the Ring to 9:00, WG to 1:07, etc.) . A similar method could be used to pick benchmarks for the pros, say using 30% to set the times. Ken MacKay Halifax, Canada GPL Handicap +95.55 PS I began to use the %Rank to evaluate my abilities relative to the GPL community after became depressing to see my rank position fall every day. A week ago I was at 534 out of 691 = 77.3 %. That same handicap today would be 617/816 = 75.61%. If your percentage was below 50% you could say with some credibility that you were a faster than average GPL driver. :-) I've noticed that without changing my handicap, my ranking as a percentage tends to get better as more slower people join below me to compensate for the ones passing me. Just another way of looking at it I guess.

Personally, I am not competing against the others in GPLRank. I don't care where I stand on the list. All I care about is my handicap. Currently at 6.67 i think. My goal... 0 with ALL chassis... likely impossible lol but i'll keep trying Martyn_D Ken MacKay wrote:
