Re: 8:47.8 ring time..

Hi chaps , thought I was a bit crap 'cos I can't get near to the replay time at the Ring but these posts have cheered me on. Best time in Lotus 8.48.33 but feeling like I'm just about to die a horrible death any second. Switch to the Ferrari and fling in round in .... 8.42.20 !! feeling like there's more where that came from. Highly recommended. Struggling at Mexico. Can't get better than 1.54.19 think I'm sliding around through the esses too much , any suggestions ? Cheers Jim Wheatly ( no relation to Tim )

Sorry to keep posting this rubbish :), but I've just shaved a mere 11 seconds off my PB at the ring, which now stands at 8:47.79. Again in the Brabham with the default set-up. I really love the Brabham round the ring, it's just got the job sorted totally. I reckon it'll go way faster as well, plus the obvious bonus of being able to drive clean laps with it (occasionally). Also gave the Ferrari another try, but the suspension is a bit all over the place and it wobbles under heavy braking (although I'll probably get flamed for saying that). I'm not sure the default set-up for the Ferrari is up to much. Anyone who wants to take a look at my greatest moment as a sim racer can download the replay from http://www.sbdev.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ring.zip and because it's the ring it's 750k even when zipped. Nothing can beat that feeling when you get that last chicane spot on and you get out of the last corner clean and you already know you've done a PB. Then you get through the first two turns of the next lap and see the pit-board and it's even better than you dared dream. Wonderful... :) Simon.

Heyas I found the same thing at the Ring, hopped in the Ferrari for the first time and within 5 laps had my PB down by 10 secs!! 8:32 As for setups, I am using Roland's setup packages from Schubi's. Having a complete set of setups from one driver really seems to help switching from track to track, and even car to car. As for mexico... i was running barely under 2 mins in the Cooper until one day I paid a visit to: http://lightsoutracing.simplenet.com/trackguides/ I've done a 1:50.xx in the cooper +) sadly lost my player.ini due to a winvroc crash before i discovered GPLrank +( Slowly rebuilding Martyn_D John Matthews wrote:

Go download some setups, they can completely change the way a car handles and in so doing improve your lap times. I'd also suggest you try running F2's around the ring abit as well. Up until a few months ago my PB for the ring was in an F2!!! hehe 8:56 in F2 eagle Martyn_D GPLRank +6.71 Simon Brown wrote:

Just wondering, is the Ferrari still fast at the Ring with the default setup because I find it slow and difficult to drive. The suspension is too loose and the cars rolls all over the place, plus the car weaves under heavy braking. Whereas my favourite Ring car, the Brabham is just rock solid and well mannered. When I manage a clean lap in the Ferrari it's around the 9:00 mark, but I can do 13 seconds better in the Brabham. The Cooper is a terrific car as well, lovely handling. I can't get it anywhere near 1:50 at Mexico though, 1:55 is my PB there in that car. My current GPL Rank handicap is +57.760, pos 503. Not bad to say I only learnt 3 of the tracks a few days ago. :)
