Re: satellite internet connections ?

If you are switching to improve online gaming, go the ISDN route. If cable or dsl is not available, and you want the best gaming connection possible go ISDN. You'll be amazed how much a pure digital connection helps eliminate packet loss while speeding up latency. Forget satellite. It has a high burst download speed but the latency is too great. Satellite is perfect for browsing the web and email but useless for online gaming. The latency is killer. I don't have any experience, but to me it sounds as if satellite could be a bad option for an online racesim player because it could introduce more lag? Traffic has to go high up to the satellite and back. Just a suspicion, though. Anyone in the UK conected to the internet using a satellite connection ? If yes what sort of speeds are you getting and is it worth upgrading to from 56. I was thinking of going the isdn route satellite looks interesting. Sprry if this is a off topic.

If you want to help your mulitplayer gaming a bit, get ISDN. Otherwise just keep the dialup.

that won't be true with Dish Network's 2-way internet satellite, which I know little about. d0le <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Fri, 14 Jul 2000 21:08:09 +0100, "MJS" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >Anyone in the UK conected to the internet using a satellite connection ?If

Satellite IS high latency, = bad for gaming whether its 2 way or not. It may give u real fast downloads, but for gaming it will suck. Latency may well be in the 1 second range, the signal has to travel so far, and laws of physics can't change that. Martyn_D Kai Fuller wrote:
