Re: New GP3 Screenshots!!

Reactions to new pre-release Grand Prix 3 screenshots

New GP3 screenshots led to criticism from Victor Chan about pixelated trees, patchy textures and a lack of filtering, while others said stills say little about the moving game. Posters also discussed the cockpit view having a wheel but no driver arms and whether field of view would be adjustable. Much of the thread was sarcasm aimed at nitpickers.

Is the field of view adjustable on this thing? I really wish all sims (flight & racing alike) had such a feature. Is it really so hard to implement?
Yeah and look it's raining in Melbourne !!!!! totally inacurate blah blah blah blah, leaves room clutching GPL box, tub of vaseline and economy box of mansize tissues : ) Regards Mike On Wed, 19 Jul 2000 18:19:03 +1000, "Berno" <[email hidden]> wrote:

I definatly prefer a cockpit with out arms. With a moving wheel is good but no wheel is just as well (you have your own on the desktop, no?). I feel like a spider with a pair of arms on the screen and mine hehe. ds Tony Jester wrote in message <[email hidden]>...

I am sorry that some folks had a blind fold on. Do you see pixels on the tree or the tree trunks???? Look at the amount of "edges" or aliasings on the graphics??? You shouldn't see them if the game is well 3D accelerated and at a higher resolution. Those screenshots looks like they didn't have bilinear filtering turned on. This remains me of F12000 too. I'm just guessing, but if the tree's were drawn in high resolution it would take more video memory limiting the resolution available to the cars track (which look amazing IMO) and more time to draw them probably resulting in some of the CPU power used for the driving model being wasted on drawing tree's that, in all honesty at 130MPH, you just ain't looking at ;) -- Ian Parker "Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy." <email invalid due to spam> Victor Chan <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ZMid5.6727$[email hidden]... > I am sorry that some folks had a blind fold on. On the other hand, over-filtered 3D graphics can be bad as well. Trees are notoriously difficult to draw properly, and a lot of times a pixelated version gives a better impression than a filtered one. We don't have a good impression of how it actually looks in movement, but it might just be that they figured it looks better *without* filtering (certainly the trees). It's not because a 3D-card feature is available that you HAVE to use it. Could the lack of filtering on some objects speed up the rendering as well? JoH
