Google is not helping tonight. I've wasted about an hour trying to find
some quick little utility that will identify my system ram.
I used to have an overall system program, but for the life of me I can't
remember what it was called. (it's probably still sitting on my hd)
anyone have a favorite?
thanks

Everest home edition by Lavalys (formerly this tool was known as
AIDA32). Comprehensive, slick and, different than most of its
competitors, completely free.

Aida32 is an AMAZING utility. It can even display the Windows XP/Office
Serial Numbers on your system, something that Microsoft said was impossible
due to encryption :)

maybe I'm missing some setting, but Sandra tells me I have x amount of
ram, but not the type and manufacturer...(I know I have Corsair, but the
part number on my receipts probably doesn't agree with Corsair numbers.)

If you have the time/connection to download the Knoppix Live CD (700MB) IIRC
it includes a very nice memory analyzer on the Grub boot menu and will not
alter your HD.
