I know that the weather changes when you are in the race but what I would
like to know is if the weather can change while in qualifying or in
practice.
thanks in advance
YES

I'm not so sure that they have 'weather loops' as such. When I took the
code apart in the original Microprose Grand Prix I found that the random
number generator that was used appeared to start from a seed and then
used the new random number to generate the next random number etc. Now,
when a game is saved at a particular point, if the current random number
is also saved and is then used as the seed when the saved game is
reloaded, then chances are the things are going to pan out pretty
similarly everytime you reload the saved game as they will always
restart from the same seed. I'm not saying this is definitely how it's
done, but a possibility all the same, perhaps.

Yes, I think Kai misunderstood. "Random" car failures and apparently
now also the weather is decided at the start of a race or maybe
weekend. So they are only exactly the same if you start from the same
saved game. Not if you start races from scratch.
You can argue against this approach, but it seems logical to me. When
you reload a saved game, you just rewind time in the same "virtual
universe". You'll have to start a different game if you want it
randomized again...

no, it just means that the wheather pattern for the entire weekend is set at
the start of a weekend. But it could still be completely random. Let me get
back to you AFTER I have driven 200 full-length races at any given track =)
