I would like to buy GP3, but am not sure how it will run on my machine - P2 450 with 2x12mb V2 cards and 256mb ram. Any help appreciated. PJ

My single Voodoo 2 is recognised but PO shoots up to 600% and beyond (anyone confirm it wraps round at 1000%? I get a display of 300% if I increase the frame rate above the "recommended" 8) and the display runs at about 0.2 fps. When it didn't work properly I installed DX7 (although I already had 7.0a) and the Voodoo 2 drivers from the CD, no change. I thought my platform was stable as I run GPL on it without any problems. I have this in cards.txt: [general] [Voodoo2 3D Accelerator] lorestextures=0 slivoodoo2=0 I'm playing in s/w mode at the moment, PO 30% upwards according to frame rate, detail etc. Celeron 400/450, Win98. I had what I thought was up-to-date drivers (it's an old product..) and then installed 3.02.02 from the GP3 disc when it didn't work properly. Are there any later than that? On Alpha F1 there are suggestions the 8k boards won't work, at all. Mine's 8k, maybe that's the problem, the graphics are generally OK but the shadows under the wheels come out as a bunch of x's. Just checked the 3Dfx site and 3.02.02 is current. My card's a TechWork Power3D Voodoo 2 - guess what, the company doesn't seem to exist any more... Oh well, I was going to buy a GeForce2 Mx card when they come out anyway. Tony Whitley > I didn't? Anyone here using a 8mb V2 card succesfully in GP3? Andre >Tony Whitley >
Greg Spark 28 Jul 2000 22:03 UTC#249230
There appears to be a compatibility problem with the Diamond Monster 3D II voodoo2 card and GP3. This is VERY disappointing as it is not exactly a "fringe" bit of hardware!! Also, reading the recent posts on the game there is a growing sense of disappointment coloured with a fair degree of anger about many deficiencies in the game. This is my first Crammond game since driving REVS on the BBC Micro back in the mid eighties and frankly, given the hype built up about this game, if I ever get it to run on my machine I expect I may be rather disillusioned - DAMN and I've waited so long for it. Oh well - back to GPL - at least it FEELS like a race car .
