GrandPrix 3 game won't start ------------------------------------------ After installing Grand Prix 3 (full install) I get the following message box when trying to run the game. >>Cannot Locate CD-ROM. Please insert CD-ROM, select OK & restart application. << Please can anyone explain this? I am using a Memorex CDRW-2216 as my only cd-rom device (CDR-CDRW drive) There is nothing wrong with my CD drive whatsoever. The spec of my PC is well above the minimum spec quoted on the box. I have waited years for this Grand Prix 3 game and to say I am dissapointed would be a big understatement. Does anyone have an immediate solution to fix this problem. TIA

Thanks for all the instant zillions of repsonses but there's no need tp reply now. ;-). The GP3 copy protection is VERY sensitive to the CDrom drive you have. I borrowed a "normal" CDROM and I finally got it to work. First impressions? Not very good. I have played EVERY F1 game since GP2 and GP3 is not very good IMHO. I have a PC and 3d card over and above the min spec and it is an abortion to play even at low res and/or low detail. (PII450, 128mb RAM, Neon250 32mb 3d card). Mr.Crammond needs to take a reality check (instead of a big fat cheque). As a f1 nut and F1 gaming fan I am really very sorry that I could not report better news. Bye.

Thank you indeed for your suggestions. I got it to work by stealing the kids CDROM drive (they were NOT happy about that I can tell you ;) ). Apparently, GP3's copy protection scheme does not like certain drives (like my Memorex CDRW for example). See my reply to my own original message. rrevved <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Fri, 28 Jul 2000 14:51:05 +0100, "Slow" <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >GrandPrix 3 game won't start > >------------------------------------------ > > > >After installing Grand Prix 3 (full install) I get the following messagebox

In a kind of Ironic way, I got around the same problem by burning a copy of my original CD and using that one, which never gives the cannot locate CD error... Makes you laugh at the amount of time they put in to protection only to cripple the Original CD's but not CDR's :) .. I already tried that too (I sucessfully did that once before to cure a very similar problem on one or two other CDs). However, CDRWIN told me that the GP3 CD was over 74min (I only have 74min CD's on the shelf here) and it was reporting zillions on errors on reading so I didn't go any further. Actually, the total files only come to about 395mb but I never tried doing a straight file/directory backup copy of it. It was quicker just to borrow the kids cdrom drive to get going just for the sake finding out that GP3 is sadly a pile of garbage anyway (for me anyway). Thanx.
