GPL questions (varied)

Hi I've got a few questions that could use some advice. There are different topics so there's something for everyone. 1) I've been trying to get the Brabham set up for Monza and have read just about everything on setups. I've used Race Engineer even but I can't get the top speed high enough. I peak at 187mph. I've tried others' setups with no success. I'll lap at 1:34 but that darn Jim Clark and his 1:30 at 195 or whatever mph has be beat. I know the Repco can do it, because Sir Jack's AI doesn't seem to have a problem keeping up. I suspect the secret is in the gearing but like I said, I've tried other setups with no improvement in top speed. Any advice? 2) Lately I've been having the screen freeze during laps, for about a second. Not always a problem on a straight but definitely an issue on curves with traffic. This is on a PIII 700, 256ram, Voodoo 3000. I use Enditall, so there's nothing else running. It seems like it's been doing it since I updated the 3DFX drivers and the new Glide driver. Before I revert to the old ones again, has anyone experienced this or know which one it's most likely to be? Any other thoughts? I'm betting it's one of those two things, but if someone thinks it's something else...I'm open to suggestion. I thought I had a 3rd question, but I can't remember it... oh well, next time! What is your diff ratio set to? I'd lay money that it is set to 9/31. With this diff setting the max speed with the tallest 5th gear in a Brabham is 190mph. If you change the diff ratio to 10/31 the max speed increases to 212mph. Personally I set 5th gear to give a max spee of 195mph in the Brabham.

I've not been having any problems in GPL with the latest 1.05 drivers. Have you defragmented your hard disk lately? It may be that your swap file has been split up which can cause disk access problems. yes I had this problem and it was disk access. Does your drive (the one with the swap file)spin down and have to restart? Is it an old drive? I had that problem whenever I did something to my hardware (eg changed drivers, or something that required a rebbot) but it went away whenever I added new hardware ( or changed drivers ...) and rebooted...almost toggled it on and off. That was on my Abit BH6/Celeraon 450 system. BB

First, Clark drives the lotus and it is faster than the Brabham. Second it is your exit speed out of the turns that you need to be worried about. The sooner you get on the gas, the faster your top speed will be at the end of the straight. You need to carry the maximum amount of speed in the corner but not so much as to hurt your exit speed. Second, I am not sure about the screen freeze. I used to see it occasionally with my old voodoo 2 but now my voodoo 5 does not do that. Sorry can not help you there.
