Blame Villeneuve not GP3 and I'm a huge fan of the guy, so I'm not
biased. I think the issue of his name and games licensing may have
been sorted out for games showing seasons after 1998.
OF1R 1998 Season no Villeneuve
F1 97 (Playstation & PC) no Villeneuve
F1 98 (Playstation) no Villeneuve
Grand Prix World 1998 Season no Villeneuve

UK PC Gamer gives GP3 95 percent
News that UK PC Gamer awarded GP3 95 percent drew scepticism, with suggestions of advertising influence and comparisons to inflated scores for Le Mans 24 Hours. Readers gave their own scores, mostly between 50 and 90 percent, citing missing AI car sounds, graphics, 1998 data and the absence of Jacques Villeneuve's name. Fans praised the weather and race atmosphere.

Good god. And there I was a couple of days ago parising PCG's tough
marking policy. Another one bites the dust... having played it for a
couple of hours, I think somewhere in the high 70s would be nearer the
mark - I'm certainly not returning it, it's a good game, but it's not
even close to the "revolutionary simulation system" advertised on the
box. It can't even cope with controllers with more than 4 buttons, fo
heaven's sake...

praised Le Mans 24hr to the skies and that was probably far worse that GP3 .
It's better to watch the reviews of new games here on RAS . Some will like a
game , some will hate it , just make a judgement based on the balance
for/against . If a game is groundbreaking like GPL then you can bet that the
reviews will reflect that .

So the missing 5% is for the:
1)Crap Graphics
2)Crap sound
3)Controller Setup bugs
4)Physics are strange
5)Replays of 20 seconds, max. etc..........
The 95% must be for something i've missed.

GPL vs GP3
GPL = A multitude of beautiful noises dissipating from those 8, 12 or
16 cylinders mixed with the sounds from the cars around you.
GP3 = A buzzsaw. One buzzsaw.
GPL = I trust in God and my skills to stay on the road
GP3 = I need downforce and fat tires to stay on the road
GPL = I think F1 drivers did it "back then" because it was fun and a
challenge. I think F1 drivers now do it for glamour, money and girls
GP3 = what's "back then"?
GPL = AI drivers are a challenge and with individual skills
GP3 = AI drivers are a nuisance
GPL = different cars have different top speeds, engine temperaments,
sounds, gearboxes, suspensions, dashboards and colors and more
GP3 = different cars have different colors
GPL = The ability to use any steering wheel know to mankind with full
three axis support and fully twaekable FF support.
GP3 = "Huh, should I buy two joysticks now or what"?
GPL = hair on the chest (Ms. Hine et al excluded)
GP3 = translucent complexion and weak limbs
Need I go on? Don't even get me started on graphics.
/petern
/dons flameproof undies
Personnally, 6.5/10 is enough:
10, minus 1 for the absence of AI cars sound,
minus 1 for poor 3D graphics,
minus 0.5 for the 2 years old season (98),
minus 0.5 for putting (what's his name?) instead of J, Villeneuve,
minus 0.5 for the limited number of views (1) that give you the
speed/gear/gas/etc information.
I'm eager to see what rating the US magazines will give to the game.
Americans aren't sold to F1 racing and should make more objective
reviews.

Yeah. And GPL sold 20 copies.
GP3 will sell a lot more. That's because it isn't a real sim. It's a game.
It doesn't matter what they say at microprose.

Yes the name can be changed, but not the guy's picture. Besides,
Villeneuve is in F1-2000 and F1WGP. Why not GP3?
But i have to admit that i'm a french-canadian and i take it a little
bad not to see Villeneuve....

I wish it, but i don't think it will happen soon.
Now that i think of it, SCGT tracks can be converted to be played in
F1-2000. Maybe it can be done from F1-2000 to GP3?
True, they did a great job with the wheel, but sometimes i'd like to
see the other cars near my rear.
