Should EA apologize?

I was wondering, while I read the posts about how to get NSR running, should EA apologize for putting out such an unfinished product? I don't have it, but reading here, it seems like it's an unfinished game and was pushed out the door in time for the "500". Again, I can only tell from what I read here. It seems Larry has a nose for finding the problems and posting fixes, so I'm going to wait until he says he's found how to fix everything. There is one thing that might really kill the deal for me though. It's the copy protection thing that won't allow me to have Alcohol or Deamon or other CD copy tools on my system. I like to make copies of my legally bought games for my own protection. -- Richard "ZZ" Busch http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/gtrank_banners/14884.gif Member: Screamers Racing League oAo AoA MARA GTR GT Rank +36.233 NGT Rank +49.137 GT Rank Monster +1270.813 GPL Rank + 14.768 MoGPL Rank + 308.654 N2003 Rank -18.8060 ---------------- Remember racecar is racecar spelled backward ----------------- ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =----

Yep, they should apologize. Shame on them <rolls eyes> And if they did, the point would be what ?

"You want an apology from EA for producing the finest Nascar simulaton to date? " In the many other posts you add to, you keep mentioning the fact that you have the demo. How can you form a valid opinion on NSR without owning the product? And again I ask you to provide some details as to WHY this is the "finest NASCAR simulation to date". Can you offer ANY insight into WHAT makes this so great? I found alink at superspeedway.net that list tons of tweaks for the config and plr files that make this game ALMOST tolerable, at least graphically. Shouldn't this be something that is done *before* the game goes gold? Why do I (and many others) have spend hours changing 1's to 0's and vice versa to get the product to work in a reasonable manner?
"Darus" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... >How can you form a valid opinion on NSR without > owning the product? Simple. It's called "word of mouth".... Based off the fact that EA's new "anti-piracy" stance is included in NSR (read: the INability for the end-user to run any CD/DVD simulation software such as Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%), I will not be buying said product. I don't care WHO you are - NO ONE TELLS ME WHAT I *CAN* AND *CANNOT RUN* ON *MY* GD MACHINE!!!
If you are making statements regarding a particular piece of software based on "word of mouth" then you opinion is not YOURS. No one is telling you what you can or cannot run on your machine. Show me where EA has said that you can't run any of the stuff you mentioned. YOu simply can't use it with THEIR code installed at the same time. Your purchase of any software is only allows you a license to use their software and is contingent on agreeing to their policies.
I have Alcohol 120% on my system and I had no problem installing and running NSR. As for whether EA should apologize...NSR is what it is, a $30 Nascar game. Does it appear to have been rushed out to meet a deadline? Definitely. Hopefully, some of the issues will be fixed before the next Daytone 500. I'm not sure that SimRacing means the same thing to EA as it does to many of us. Spark ZZ wrote:

Well, I agree with many of the complaints made fwiw. But asking them to apologize ? LOL. "Somewhere over the rainbow......." >

I'm sure I won't find them all. Hell, I can't even find out how to call the tow truck in online races when you get flat tires! As for backing up games, well, I think the DMCA has killed that. Any good software that would do it is now illegal, and the delelopers are taking away more of our rights with every release. The Fair-Use Doctrine has taken a beating every since the DMCA was passed :( -Larry "ZZ" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:4217cbff$[email hidden]...

"NSR looks stunningly gorgeous right out of the box so I have no idea what you are taking about." Perhaps you are used to a monochrome monitor at a 640x480 screen rez, or another ridiculously poor image display, but I expected a vast jump in visual quality over NT and NR2003. What I got was the same ISI type of graphics I have seen since F12000. I run on an 18" LCD at 1280x1024x32, with a P4 3.0ghz, 1024 RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro. I max out the detail levels on every screen from within the game and still get average display quality when compared to the same spot on the track from NR2003. Shimmering fences, jaggies galore (No AA allowed per the readme), and car models that are so unlike any NNC car that I ever seen up close. Even when I sacrifice some FPS by using AA (wtf is that anyway? It's 2005 and devs are making games that DON'T use modern GPU enhancements?) the image quality improves somewhat. I have to go to 6x AA to get the image that I want, but can't race with the 17 fps that I now get at DAytona. Gee, what an option. Thanks EA! BTW, Paris Hilton, Brooke Burke, Anna Kournikova are all stunningly beautiful. NSR run as is, right out of the box looks like my big toe.

???? I have a slower system than yours P4 3.0 512ram Radeon 9700Pro and a 19" LCD. I run NSR at 1280x1024x32 with 2xAA and it looks fantastic. N2003 looks flat and sparse in comparison. There is no comparison. It just looks old now. Yes, if you turn off AA, there are too many jaggies in NSR, but if I turn off AA in N2003, N2003 looks awful. My frame rates are excellent with 2xAA in NSR. Frame rates are still good with higher AA, but I get sudden stutters for a few seconds for some reason, so I can't use higher AA. Are there any racing games that look good without AA? Any games at all? -- David G Fisher

But in any case, aside from the odd NSR car shapes I think it's safe to say they're close enough graphically that it's a matter of personal preference. Kind of the old F12K vs. GP4 argument. No end to that one... ;-) It is interesting to see mention of the notorious ISI graphic stutter popping up. GTR seems plagued by it, but I hadn't seen it in NSR yet. As for your finishing question, probably not any track-based ones, but RBR looks fine without AA. Very few straight edges out in the wild! SB

Well I think it's probably more than what they are describing in GTR actually. The frame rates drop from maybe 60 to 20 ( or 40 to 10) for a few seconds and then back up to 60. :-) -- David G Fisher

I thought that about the demo. But version 1.0 looks very good to me. JT

I get the stuttering in NSR, but I've never had a problem in F1C or any of the GTR demos. After raising my graphics settings in NSR, I started seeing the same problem as you with the frame rates dropping from 60s to 20s or 30s for a couple of seconds and then back up to 60s. Bill
