iRacing: a simulation for grown men and women

Flame wariRacing 'for grown men and women' sparks name-calling

Mario Petrinovic praised iRacing as a mature simulation, and critics called it elitist and overpriced. Adamo Contadino argued that the real-name requirement was a security risk, which led to a long flame war with several posters. Tony Rickard noted that iRacing members had a diverse range of opinions.

Joking aside, iRacing has as diverse a range of members as anything else, with many varied opinions. Heck they even let loons like MacPherson in... :) The test for iRacing will be to provide for such a diverse group. Some see iRacing as the ultimate hardcore sim so want physics over everything else, whilst others want a league type community experience and development in this area. Others want features as a priority. I don't think there is a stereotype iRacer... Cheers Tony

I just got tired of bashing the iRacing by (some) people, because of their childish reasons. I mean, why on Earth would someone attack such an excellent simulation? -- Mario Petrinovic

That puts a risk on me for identity theft and it just isn't going to happen. For that reason alone I resent the whole iRacing concept.

Well, don't know about that. I don't have 50 games at home, and iRacing isn't "just another" game for me. If I by 50 games and every game costs as much as iRacing cost, for sure the price for those games would be high. But I buy only 3 games (simulations) per year. Controlers for those simulations cost more. > Because they force people to use real names? In every sport they do that. > Because the driving penalty rules suck and are not even reaslistic? There are a lot of posts in iRacing forum about being slow, and things like that. There are a lot older people (I am 46), and there was even an initiative to start an "old farts" club. iRacing tries to find a category for everyone, but the accent clearly is on maturity. iRacing concentrate only on things important to racing. All the elements that attract parents to buy a game for their toddlers so that they can "play with their little cars" on a computer are left out of iRacing. As a consequence, MATURE people enjoy iRacing very much. -- Mario Petrinovic

What a fucking tool! For a start the cost is down to the individual and what they are willing to pay. Looks like thousands are willing to pay the cost. Also, there's nothing wrong with the penalty system. BTW, it takes a lot more than just knowing a persons name to steal their identity!

Clearly, you put a heavy emphasis on your freedom - your freedom to be a total idiot. Little wonder you don't want anyone to know who you are - you'd never be able to step out the front door again once the neighbours and school kids saw what you get up to online!.

Well put. He better run out and collect his local PHONEBOOK as it not only has the names of a gazillion people (and his if he has a phone), but their address and phone number too! Guess they are all screwed! iRacing has succeeded if it does nothing but keep twits like this away.

I have an unlisted phone number so it hasn't been in any phone book for many years now, moron. If you had more than two brain cells to rub together you would have an unlisted number too.

If you have been fucked over before (and clearly you have), the only information that lead people to do that to you is that you're a complete and utter raving lunatic! To this day I find it hard to resist winding someone up a little more who is already over wound to the shithouse! LOL. PS - is your favourite movie "Hollow Man"? Hows about "Conspiracy Theory"?

Ok, now try this. Go to some news group where only citizen of your country go. I live in capital town of Croatia, Zagreb. Croatia is country of 4.500.000 population. Just recently (18 years ago) Croats gain their independence after 900 years of foreign rulers (there were some casualties, too, and half country was destroyed). All still feel extremely nationalistic. Now, my both parents are Croats. I publicly proclaimed that I am ashamed of my Croatian heritage, and that I piss on Croatian nation. I did this under my real name, and I do in every possible occasion. Freedom of speech doesn't have sense at all, if it isn't possible under your own name. It is a fake. Because I (by every sign of my real name, and as a complete person) stand behind absolutely every word that I write. I am writing things that I think they are right, so I am ready to confront absolutely everybody in defense of my words. If I don't use my real name, everybody has full right to think that I am only some joker, and have right behave towards me like I am. Nobody takes you seriously if you don't use your name, and they are right. I also wrote in some scientifical groups. There, a lot of people use their own names (and they aren't stupid people), whoever wants to be taken seriously uses its own name. -- Mario Petrinovic

You place far too much importance on a name. A name is just a bunch of letters and gives no more credibility to what you say. By not divulging your name it allows you to say what you want without fear of reprisals. Many political authors used pseudonyms in their literature for that reason. It doesn't mean what they said was less credible just because they didn't use their real name. It just meant they lived longer to publish more political literature.

No you couldn't. To win a libel case you have to prove that your reputation has been damaged. But everyone thinks you're a cunt already. Also, an unknown person using a pseudonym cannot be libeled. But I feel I touched a nerve there. I think the 'gentleman' doth protest his innocents too much! ;-)

What a lot of bullshit. This is no different to a couple of blokes getting into a fight over a pool table at a local pub! There is simply a delayed reaction, that's all. Yes. And if they thought someone would kill them for their views, assuming their views were reasonable, then they should have killed THEM, not written more shit. I don't need to think about this - a post without a name is weak - no one takes notice of wimps - except maybe other sympathetic wimps.

I wish I had some of your golden brain cells so I could work out if "Jimmy Jazz" is your real name. Do you walk around the streets with a sax singing and playing - "I'm Jimmy Jazz, yeah yeah yeah" "Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah! Sax solo Jimmy Jazz - yeah yeah! Fist pumps and high fives with anyone nearby?

It's taken from a song by The Clash, moron. Go back to tapping your toe to Ravel's Bolero and dreaming that Bo Derek is giving you a rim job.

I am not necessarily attacking the simulation. If you want to spend the money to race, then go ahead and spend it. I don't think paying for something that I can't play the way I want competively is something I want to do. But out of iRacing comes this elitist attitude that I just don't care to be a part of. ("Since we race iRacing, we are the best there is. Please don't join if you are not the best. We accept nothing less, and anything less will not be accepted.") Alan

"Beat on the brat with a baseball bat". Browny points if you know which band wrote that line.

But all this simply isn't true. Believe me, everybody can DRIVE this sim competively. The only thing that is needed is that you take this COMPETITION seriously. iRacers simply don't want to play games. They only want to have this sport. This is what they always wanted, only nobody could manage to materialize that. Now iRacing managed. Previous sims suffered in that regard because they had to satisfy every silliness that is around, to be able to collect money for that. A lot of little money, for every silliness a bit. Now iRacing decided to get rid of silliness, but for that they need to charge more money. It is simple as that, simple mathematics, nothing else. Previous sims got to have arcade mode, above car driving view, no damage, and similar things. Previous simmers had to tolerate every child that comes around. Now that is all gone, thanks God. I definitely don't think that I am the best, and also 95% of iRacers know that they are not the best, being beaten every day by better drivers. But, it is true that the best drivers take this thing seriously, and they all gathered at iRacing. It is just a beautiful sight to see them all at one place, competing with each other. -- Mario Petrinovic

Funny that - that's EXACTLY what WOULD make me want to join! Cry baby bunting!
