Disappointed GP3 owners try the GPL demo

Two users disappointed with GP3 tried the GPL demo but found it looked poor or would not run. Regulars explained the 18MB demo from Papyrus's site worked better than Sierra's version, that the D3D patch worked with the demo if a core.ini was created, and that the full game was now cheap. Both eventually got it running, and one called it superb.

But the vast majority of racing simulation fans, and the majority of racing sim developers, say it's till *the* benchmark. Obviously, if you've got an EB within reach, you can try GPL out with no risk; but even if not, it's very cheap (UKP10 in the UK, about the equivalent in the US), so you haven't lost much. Should you buy it? If you want a pick-up-and-play, arcadey sort of game with flashy graphics that you can master in a weekend, steer well clear. But if you want to put in the time and effort (lots of both!), you'll find it incredibly rewarding. You'll also probably spend vast amounts of money upgrading your system, and say goodbye to any social life you may have had, but that's secondary... -- David. Intriqued with all these references to a game I have never seen before, I too decided to have a look. Downloaded the demo ... installed .... chose 3dfx adapter as my video out. So wheres the game then. I click on the Icon in Programn Manager ... get an egg timer for a few seconds ... and thats it! One desktop ... Good advert for the game isn't it? Is it my spec ...? PII 450 on an ASUS P3b-F 128mb RAM Creative Voodoo Banshee running the latest drivers SBLive Full, (which passes the WAV test .. I should think so too) So what is the score on this? Any help appreciated Cheers -- Mick

Hello, Being a bit dissapointed with GP3 I've decided to tryout GPL! So, I've downloaded the demo from Sierra......but what a crappy scenary......oh boy, this CANT be the game everyone is talking about? So I downloaded the 1.2 patch to see it in D3D. Now, I cannot patch the demo to 1.2...And without a 3dfx card the game looks like GP1 and behaves worse.... I dont wanna ask directly for a warez site, but honestly....havin' purchased the latest 2 F1 sims, F1-2000 and GP3, and played them about 10 minutes each, I dont wanna be left as a totally fool if GPL is dissapointing / unplayable aswell... Actually, the greatest dissapointment is that I cant even play it...... Btw, it doesnt like my SBLive. All in all.....these things *might* be due to the fact that Im trying version 0.0.0.0. Maybe 10 minutes for each of these games isn't quite enough to give them before condemning them to the shelf. Yes there are some disappointing aspects to GP3.. mainly in what has been left out as opposed to what's actually in there but it is still a top notch 'modern' F1 sim. I am already having a blast with GP3 and am eagerly awaiting the plethora of add-ons that are sure to come it's way.
