I agree, I love F1 2000, but then again, I play it on a p3650@866/Geforce DDR, so it runs pretty nice. I _strongly_ recommend going to www.bhmotorsports.com and getting all the track, game, and car updates you can stand to install. They make it so much better. Another necessity is to edit the braking ratio value in the default.vhs file from 9002.2 (or whatever) to something like 6000. A big modification I like, it to edit the settings file for each track and change the FOV from 77.25 (or whatever) to 90. It gives you a better viewing perspective IMO. Gotta run.... I really want a good F1 game. I have tried GP3 and returned it to EB. Its a real disappointment. How good though is F12000? (for reference I am about to buy a Athelon 900 with GForce2 card and 256mb ram). Thanks for any advice PJ

Mind you I don't have either GP3 or GPL. *Graphics is so-so, and very demanding on the hardware. With your prospect setup you *should* maybe get good framrates during racing. I don't really know, 'cause I don't have nearly that kind of hardware... :) But personally I only do hotlapping anyway, so I get away with 1024x768 on a TNT1. *Physics is tops, at least IMO. Every setup change counts, and I feel weight shifts and stuff. GP2 never were this good. *Track accuracy is pretty poor. I haven't inspected every track in every detail, but on average it doesn't look so good in that department. *Races are pretty much impossible, IMHO, even after v1.06. The AI keeps a completely different pace than me, and cheats a lot. Even if the AI and I keep doing the same laptimes, the pace on different track segments are way out of sync. I keep rear-ending cars when they brake before flat-out turns or they rear-end me. If you're that picky that you returned GP3, I'd say don't get F1-2k. I think it's good hotlapping fun, and I don't regret getting it, but if you're out for a complete game maybe it's better to wait for F1-2001... /Magnus

F1 2000 is really good. But then again....if you are someone who returns his games after a few hours practising......then dont buy any game!! You have to practise F1 2000 a lot. Then you gonna like it more and more. And dare to tell you, that if you had played GP3 longer, you would like it also more and more. Both games has good and bad point. Ofcourse F1 2000 is a bit better in general, but give games a chance...!! Paul Jager <[email hidden]> schreef in berichtnieuws 9nEh5.13529$[email hidden]... > I really want a good F1 game. If you want to race a modern F1 car online with real people F1-2K is well worth checking out (I love it) though I dont think "overall" offline gameplay is going to impress you that much if you hated GP3. . . If you tell me what dissipointed you in GP3 I can give you some info on how F1-2K will compare. The main things I dont like about F1-2K are the AI and the un-realistic amount of grip you get on grass/curbs. These flaws can be fixed to some extent with patches and what you are left with is a sim that "overall" (IMO) is a little better than GP3. Then again, if online play is very important to you then I think it would be safe to say that F1-2K blows away GP3 ;). By the same token, the weather effects in GP3 are so good that some people will like GP3 much more than F1-2K for that reason alone. For me, the F1-2K car seems to drive ("feel") more like a real car, F1-2K sound(s) are WAY better than GP3`s sound ;) and I think this adds up to make being at an event in F1-2K a little more realistic feeling, and fun (IMO). Lorne Uses and likes both GP3 and F1-2K but is hoping for more from future F1 sim`s. ----------------------- Paul Jager <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9nEh5.13529$[email hidden]... > I really want a good F1 game. Speaking about realistic. A game will never we realistic in every way. You can look for that, but never find it. So waiting for F1 2001 is not an option in my opinion. If you speak about F1 2000 and some negative things, i suppose you mean that like it but there are things that can be improved. Thats another way of speaking about the game. So in my opinion (i will never say F1 2000 is perfect) the best modern f1 sim for the moment is F1 2000. Gp3 is a good second. And GPL cannot be compared with those two, cause its another genre. I will not give an advice like, wait for 2001 or better wait for 2010. Cause thats too easy. I assume the guy wants to play now..... I wasn't talking about realism. The realism is good enough. The whole game experience of F1-2k isn't. It feels very rough around the edges, and I think it was rushed out the door. If he gets F1-2k just because it's the last possible choice he *will* be dissappointed. /Magnus

I happen to like GPL a lot and think it's in a seperate class on its own, no competition from whatever "sim" currently available but next to this I thiink GP3 is really the best modern sim around at the moment, despite all bugs who are mentioned in this NG the last two weeks. I think a lot of people are disappointed by the first looks of it and think they've been cheated but this sim grows on you. Once you've given it enough time (and configured it properly) you'll notice that F1-2000 simply isn't any competition: The directness of GP3 is stunning. Go and try F1-2000 and GP3 next to each other for a while. I also started MGPRS2 (after a long long time) to compare it with GP3: Absolutely no competition. (And I really liked that Ubisoft product at the time of release). I think the tracks in GP3 are fantastic and hope some GP2-goeroes will be able to bring them up-to-date with the current season (same goes for the drivers). I think the fact that we have variable weather in GP3 just adds to the gameplay: You really have to be strategic. This feature compensates a lot of missing 'features' (LAN-racing, absence of other car's sounds, .....). I read a lot of complaints about 'canned spins' in GP3. Could somebody explain these please to me? I notice I can save a lot of to-be-spins simply by applying the same techniques used in GPL! I think people who rant about this 'canned' effect simply overcook their curve entry speed and loose the car. So PJ: If you want the 'most accurate sim avaialble today': GPL - it's superior in a lot of categories (LAN, FF, performance, physics). If you want the best modern F1 sim: GP3 Jan.

I would recommend Monaco Grand Prix 2, or I would say, wait a few months, then UBISoft launches a new F1. .. MVH Anders H. Jrgensen, der snart flytter til rhus. email: [email hidden]

You can expect GP3 graphics/damage-level/ carshape/sounds/AI-perforance being patched very very soon. And with a bit of luck new tracks too. In fact, if THAT works then just about all existing GP2 tracks will be convertable, too! Sound like good arguments to buy GP3 if some of these aspects disappointed. JoH
